MSI Pro Z790-P Wifi 1missing CPU pins

    Hello,

I am a new forum member. I found a broken MSI motherboard with lot of problems. The other problems need schematic. Because, the missing parts what were breaking down with screwdriver and pliers at a standoff.
So, its actual problem is a missing Vcore and Gnd pins in the CPU socket. My question is that, can it be used safely without these two pins? Only for testing at first, while the other problems will be solved. I would wish repair them later.

The other spots are thermal phaste, because, the under educated installer of the CPU did wipe the contacts of the CPU up with thermal phaste. There was lot of work to clean it down from everywhere.

    Regards

Hi, single missing vcore/gnd pins are no problem, you can use the board like that, only condition is the pins cannot be bent in a way, that a short with neighbour pins is possible. Regarding vcore/gnd pins they are hundreds of them in parallel, so single missing pins have no influence. Theoretically it might happen that just these pins which are missing on your socket are not connected inside the cpu, in such a case the cpu will just not work or not work correctly. But you can check this on the corresponding cpu pads with a meter before. Most probably all the vcore/gnd pads are also connected internally inside the cpu, but it is not 100% sure, as there is no documentatuon about this available.

CPU vcore missing in HP workstation Z2 Mini 4G
      by Francisco.s
Hi, have a HP workstation Z2 Mini 4G for repair with CPU vcore missing.

The resistance at the output of CPU vcore coils, is less than one ohm so I think CPU could be damaged, but no mosfet are damaged.
It mounts an i7 8th gen, and have only i5 7th gen for test, but I think it is not compatible.

Without CPU in the socket there is no short, but there is no vcore voltag, and it emits a beep like no detecting ram.

The controller chip for cpu vcore is a MP2949A, and has no enable voltage at pin 37.

I wonder which circuit generates this enable...

RTX 2080 ti (Zotac - triple fan) - No video output / Vcore / Vmem missing
      by T4H
      Hi,
I have an RTX 2080 ti (Zotac - triple fan) with no video output.
So far I have measured the following:
      • PS_FBVDD_PH3_SW = 40 ohm to ground (Micron ICs) - Memory should be fine right?
      • 12V power rail present
      • 3.3V power rail present
      • 5V power rail present
      • 1.8V power rail present
      • Vcore power rail missing --> PS_NVVDD_VREF is present. (from uP9512P / U812)
      • Vmem power rail missing --> Not there because Vcore power rail is missing.

Any idea? I have already tried to flash the BIOS chip (backup got created) - sadly no changes.

MSI Z390-A PRO missing VCORE voltages
      by karlp028
I've got an MSI Z390-A Pro motherboard that starts up fine, but it's missing the VCORE (and VGT) voltages. All of the other voltages are present (e.g. VCCSA, VCCIO) and I know the CPU (i7-9700k) is good. Now, the original PWM controller (UP9521P) had an internal short and I replaced it with a new one. All of the enable signals look good. The problem seems to be the PWM signals going to the MOSFET drivers. I checked them with an oscilloscope and they are all flat 1.5V with no pulses. I don't know why this would be and I'm not sure where to look next.

Z170 Pro Gaming missing Vcore after cleaning
      by brusli009
I bought it used and was filled with dust, but was working fine, took the heatsinks off and gave it a quick clean with ipa and a soft brush.
The next day it starts but the vcore is missing, also the qled dont light up, from what ive seen on the boardview (posted on the forum) i think im missing the vcore enable, but not sure. Also if the 8pin cpu is removed when the board is started,it dosent do anything, feels like the board dosent know that its connected.
Maybe someone has some ideeas or something.

HP 17-cn0234ng - RAM and VCORE voltage missing
      by chbalnuweit
      Hi all,

I got an HP 17-cn0234ng and I am hitting a wall diagnosing it.

When I first got it, it wouldnt turn on at all and no lights were active.

I found a shorted capacitor on the 3.3V powerrail near the lid sensor. Once I removed the shorted capacitor, the power and charging light on the DC connector started working and the Laptop reacted to the powerbutton.

When I press the powerbutton, current consumption goes up to about 50mA and just stays there. Chipset and 3.3V regulator getting a bit warm under thermal camera, but not really noticeable...
