PWM controller is CHL8328 (data sheet attached) and driver for the gates is CHL8510 (data sheet in #19)

      Re: ASRock Z68 Extreme 4 can't boot

To sum up, my last finding was that after every power up, there is a varying resistance between G and S of the upper mosfet which changes from 3 ohm to open (or rather 8K6 due to a resistor between them) in a very long time (>10 hrs). This almost-shorted G-S makes reboot fail (Vcore=0V). I cannot proceed any further from here.

However, I did try to figure out the schematic of the VRM and draw it up here. All component values are DMM reading, so it may be the result of a problem on the board rather than actual component values. Among which I found something near the lower mosfet that I don't understand since I don't have the fundamental knowledge. It may be a problem or just my ignorance. When DMM at 200ohm selector, the reading between A & B (yes, it's the cap) is 95.9 ohm while between A & Gnd is 94.8, lower than AB. And all 8 VRMs are consistent. How can it be lower? Does it means something wrong with the driver IC? All 8 of them?

Sorry for not replying yet. I just moved back to university and have no internet. Currently using the library's computers. Should get internet back in a few days hopefully.

          Re: ASRock Z68 Extreme 4 can't boot

While I have some low resistance in G-S of upper mosfet of Vcore after power off, I later observed the same thing in Vdisplay and Vtt. So this may not be a problem I guess.

But I also have new findings. This time I tested and repeated it 5 times to make sure it is related to my problem. When the board operate normally (i.e. cpu fan turning, diagnostic LED on, beep sound, UEFI working), Vcore is 1.03V with 2 of 8 phases' mosfet gate have voltage, Vdisplay is 0V with gates also 0V (UEFI doesn't use CPU display is something new to me). When it fail (i.e. cpu fan turning, no diagnostic LED, no beep, no UEFI at all), Vcore is 0V with all gates 0V, Vdisplay is 0.92V with gate voltage. The failure and above voltage changes happened at the same time and repeated in all 5 tests. Can somebody please tell me if this can help locate the problem on the board?

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

            Assuming...

Asus Z97-a power cycle, no boot no cpu voltage
            by meraklinetx
Hello, I have an asus Z97-A motherboard and it doesn't start which was working properly before, the problem isn't related by ram, ram slots or psu (I changed all and nothing work), the exact problem is when you switch it on , it starts and after 1 seconds (no boot or display picture) it's off and then on cycle continuously until you power it off from psu also it's responding to the power switch for turning it off if you keep pressing it 3 or 4 seconds (power button pin has 3.3v) , also when you start it with eatx 12v socket connected this is happening (power cycle also all voltages are resetting...

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
            by PantherDave
            Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Bang & Olufsen (HP) Omen Laptop power light flashes once but no boot
            by dicky96
            Hi guys
I have a B&O Omen laptop here. It has very specific fault symptoms, hopefully someone can give me some guidance

If I plug in a known good 180W third party charger the little LED next to the power jack on the laptop flashes red once, but the laptop will not start. It will not flash red again unless you unplug and reconnect the power.

If I remove the main battery (I can't see a cmos battery) then the led by the jack does not flash when I plug in the adapter, but if I press the power on button with adapter attached it flashes once white every time...
