Intel D845GEBV2 - KZG cap bloats in storage

I replaced this board a while ago, and stored it away for a rainy day

Needing to test an AGP card, I retrieved the D845GEBV2 and was dismayed to find (use your imagination here - I didn't take a Before pic)

Replaced all three KZG with Sanyo WG

Had a hell of a job removing the KZGs, hence the wear & tear underneath

Good save! Reminds me to maybe start hunting again on eBay for easy recap boards. I got a nice Biostar GeForce 6100-M9 socket 939 motherboard for cheap just because of 5 failed KZGs.

My guess is, the KZGs on your board probably started to fail or had deteriorated before you put the board in storage. Once in storage, the lack of voltage across their plates likely caused the electrolyte to completely break down, thus producing gas and making them bulge. I've seen 8 mm and smaller Teapo caps do that, too. Strangely, I've also had this happen with some (possibly overheated) Nichicon HZ (or was it HN) caps as well. They had 2005 datecodes, though.
