The computer is the one in the subject. Dead. So dead, that no button, no nothing works. Zero signs of it being live until I open it.
What's verified - the B+ voltage is there at 8.4V.
Battery is probably dead, cause it was a bit over discharged (to 6V). I forcefully charged it directly on the cell terminals to 3.8V per cell. Now it has voltage on the output connector, but it is 7.1V, not 7.6V. Even when connected to the motherboard it doesn't charge. But will look at that later.
The +3VALWP and +5VALWP voltages are missing. Traced them to PU500 and PU501.... -
by evoman2Hello everyone! I have an old hp workstation z420. Xeon E5 1620 v2, 8gb ecc ddr3
Basically, when I plug in the power cable to the power supply, it turns on and off while clicking every time it power cycles. Once I remove the power cable from the supply, it flashes a red light 4 times while beeping for about 10 seconds. I have purchased a new CPU and power supply already, but that hasnt fixed it so I'm convinced it's a motherboard level fault. If anyone has any ideas on what the fault could be, and/or how to diagnose it, that would be highly appreciated. Thanks!05-09-2025, 07:31 PM -
by eduardo11791Hi, pretty much new here, glad I can be part of this community. I'm new to repairing laptops motherboards (Only previous experience was repairing a Z690I STRIX with a broken trace on the memory slot, and it was a sloppy job but worked)
Bit of background: I'm not new replacing Laptop parts and doing general testing. Bought multiple laptops of the same model since it's easier to repair and got some that I can either switch parts and test.
ASUS STRIX GL703GE-IS74
Motherboard Model: DABKNBMB8D0 Rev D All of them

by DocusHi everyone 😀,
I'm here today to ask for help with repairing the motherboard of a Lenovo Legion Y540 17IRH.
To give you some context, I'm passionate about computer repair so much so that I've invested in a lot of tools and started practicing on dead and old hardware. I've been learning how to solder and desolder components, mostly focusing on phone repairs.
Recently, I bought a broken Lenovo Legion Y540 17IRH for just €150, and there are two main reasons why I made this purchase:- I already own the exact same model, but its plastic chassis is badly damaged.
