    Dell Dimension 8300

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 bought on 21 August 2003 in UK.
The six caps near the CPU are 820uF, 6.3V, 8mm diameter x 20mm length. They are Nichicon HN(M). They have all bulged and some have leaked.

I cannot find any specification on the Nichicon caps. But for replacement, I have bought, Panasonic, EEUFM0J821L. 820uF, 6.3V, 8mm diameter x 15mm length., Impedance/100kHz = 0.041Ohms, ripple current =1240mA.rms/100kHZ. Will these be suitable replacements?

The other caps on the board which physically look are :
    3, 1000uF, 10V, 10mm dia. x 15mm length
    6, 220uF, 25V, 8mm dia. x 12mm length
    5, 470uF, 16V, 8mm dia x 12mm length
    4, 1200uF, 16V, 10mm dia x 25mm length
Is it necessary to replace these also?

Also I would like to know if there will be any problems if I leave the CPU and the battery on the board while replacing the caps.

    the EEUFM0J821L should be fine.
personally i would remove the cpu and ram when recapping, the battery i would leave

The other caps on the board which physically look are :
    3, 1000uF, 10V, 10mm dia. x 15mm length
    6, 220uF, 25V, 8mm dia. x 12mm length
    5, 470uF, 16V, 8mm dia x 12mm length
    4, 1200uF, 16V, 10mm dia x 25mm length
Is it necessary to replace these also?
we need the brand and series to tell you.

      Re: Dell Dimension 8300

Thank you for your quick reply.
All the caps are Nichicon. I may be wrong abou the actual quantities.

      3, 1000uF 10V, PW(M) 105deg. C - dark brown with grey strip
      7, 220uF 25V, VR(M) 85 deg. C - black with grey strip
      3, 470uF, 16V, VR(M) 85deg. C
      4, 1200uF 16V, KZE, (H)105 deg C - Black with grey strip

I did not like to remove the CPU as I am afriad I might damage the pins when putting back since I have never inserted one with so many pins. But may pick courage to remove it.

          Hi,
Old post I know but the Pana part number returned this thread.
Are those Panasonic caps suitable replacements for KZG series?
Someone asked me to recap a board because I've used a soldering iron before!
That's as far as their theory went on it...
The board is an ASUS A8N-SLI SE with 4x 820uf 6.3v KZG bulging.
I've pulled them already and the only other markings are (M105c) 6(k) 2b (one is 2w not 2b).
I am not sure what the second set of numbers mean though... 6(k) 2b/2w, if they are relevant to me.. (m105c) is pretty self explanatory.
          Thanks in advance

Panasonic FM is a liittle too high in ESR for KZG replacement.

            UCC KZG 820uf 6.3v 8mm x 11.5mm = .036 ohm ESR, 1.14A ripple current.
            Panny FM 820uf 6.3v 8mm x 15mm = .041ohm ESR, 1.24A ripple current

You want to use Rubycon MBZ or MCZ, or Nichicon HM, HN, or HZ series.

You can get Nichicon HN right here:

            https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...roducts_id=163

            Nichcicon HN 820uf 6.3v 8mm x 11.5mm = .021 ohm ESR, 1.3A ripple current.

You always want to use caps with the same or lower ESR, and the same or higher ripple current rating.

The second set of characters is the date and batch code.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
              by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Need Advice On Which Caps To Buy For Dell Dimension 8300 Motherboard
              by TMTGTR
              The Symptom:

I own a Dell Dimension 8300 motherboard that will post and get to the black (XP pro 32bit) “We're Sorry Windows did not load” Screen.

When restarting any option i.e. “Normal” “Safe Mode” etc. Computer re-boots to same screen. I checked RAM with memtest –OK Checked O/S Drive with Victoria -OK

              Upon Inspection:

I did a physical examination and see that the 6 caps by the CPU are all bulging in various degrees. (See Pics Below).

I found a YouTube vid with a guy who replaced these 6 caps and the computer works fine....

Displaced tiny resistors on Dell Dimension 8300 board
              by kahlil88
Had some difficulty removing the caps off my Dimension 8300 board. My cheap soldering iron just couldn't seem to melt the solder so I flipped over the board and used hot air. They all popped out fine but halfway thru wicking up the remaining solder, I noticed several tiny resistors near the CPU had been bumped out of place! ...

Dell Dimension PSU Compatibility - B110 PSU in 4550
              by SwedishDiesel
              Howdy folks,

I've risen from the grave to ask more questions about old obsolete Dells.

I've acquired a Dell Dimension 4550 which is in need of a PSU - I've several PSUs from Dell Dimension B110s, and I'm wondering if one of them could be used. The PSUs and the 4550 use a 20-pin connector and a 4-pin connector.

The issue is, I've been told that Dell really likes using proprietary hardware, and there were concerns about damage being caused by an incompatible supply. Because of this I'm assuming it's not just a simple plug-and-play and that there's more...
