Need L1117 voltage regulator for Intel D865GVDS (Dell) mother board

I have a dead, dead, very dead motherboard from a Dell computer. It is an Intel D865GVDS. It had an extremely hot voltage regulator feeding the BIOS area, obviously bad. Other L1117 voltage regulators on this board not running hot. Problem is that I can't find a replacement part. Info I have found indicate that this is a variable voltage regulator. All of the L1117 series regulators I can find are fixed voltage.

So....any information or help (other than trash it) would be helpful.

Are you sure the voltage regulator is bad or is the problem? If you are getting the correct voltage out it may be another part that is bad or shorted that is overloading the problem regulator. Of course you may need to try another one to check this, which puts you back at square one of needing a new one.

Hot as it was, I am sure the chip is a goner....as to what else may be wrong.....don't know yet. But thanks Jetadmin - you have pointed me in the right direction.

Remove regulator from the board and test it with a load. Also check resistance on the pads on the board where the regulator was to see if perhaps some other component is shorted. SMD multi-layer ceramic capacitors LOVE to go short circuit.

If you determine the regulator is bad, let me know. I have a few 1117 regulators from various boards. Not sure if any are adjustable, but I can check. Can ship you one in a mail envelope easily.

Thanks momaka, but I have already ordered from Digikey - all of 63 cents plus a little first class postage. I have lost the chip which I took off the board, but will be checking the other components around it very carefully.

3+1 Voltage Regulator for IMVP-7/VR12 CPUs

Compliant with IMVP-7/VR12, the ISL95831 provides a complete solution for microprocessor and graphic processor
core power supply. It provides two Voltage Regulators (VRs) with three integrated gate drivers. The first VR can be
configured as 3-, 2- or 1-phase VR while the second output is 1- phase VR, providing maximum flexibility. The two VRs share the
serial control bus to communicate with the CPU and achieve lower cost and smaller board area compared with the two chip approach.

diy - voltage injection possiblity with voltage and ampere regulator - possiblity ?
              by playit
hello ,for diy voltage injector for short killer/finder -- is it possible to use something like this - LM317 DC Linear Regulator, DC-DC 4.5~40V Turn 1.2~37V, Step Down Power Module, Adjustable

and ampere controller along (to make it zero amps ) with some addons(transistors diodes etc.) for it -- and use some 5v adaptor or 3.3v volt rail of my smps power supply as input and finally get 1v and zero amps for injecting voltage to find out short circuit component ? ..
for source input -- can we use 3.3 -4 volt 18550 battery ?( i have some of those ) and then adding ampere regulator...

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
              by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Help identifying voltage regulator on this concept 2 pm5 monitor pcb board?
              by artvandalai
This Concept 2 rower pm5 monitor doesn't shut down. It keeps turning on and stays on after being turned off. I read on another forum by another user that replaced the same component to check the voltage regulator.
The monitor should pull around 35mA when turned on and in shutdown it should drops to around 0.060mA. Any advice on finding the voltage regulator on this board to check if it needs to be replaced?

Acer AL1916W - Two seconds to black - Voltage regulator problem?
              by Long AMD
Hello all. Excellent forum you have here - it has already been a great help to me. I am posting the details of my situation before I go and start buying parts to see what suggestions the great minds here may have on diagnostics or otherwise.

I have an Acer AL1916W monitor which has recently failed in the following way: the screen comes on at power on, but after a couple seconds the screen goes black. Using a flashlight, I can easily verify the LCD is fine but there is simply no backlight.

The power supply board is of the type ILPI-025 Rev C (Date of manufacture was...
