    6600 Possible Poly-Mod?

I have an older 6600GT PCI-E video card that still has 5 functioning Sacon FZ509's. I have researched that Nichicon HN's are a good replacement for these FZ's. All are 470uF 16Volt 8 x 12mm through-hole. ESR is claimed to be 1150mA @ 0.036 from Sacon's data chart.

I can go with a lower-voltage on 2 of the caps as they have 5 volts and 2 volts (measured in circuit and running). The three remaining do have 12 volts on them.

What would be recommended values in uF for the various locations or would I be better off just replacing them with the HN's?

Also, who made the cap in the lower right corner of the board (the one with 1.02 Volts), looks like a 470uF 6Volt 10mm SMD.

BTW, the remaining purple caps are Sanyo Os-Cons- 820uF 4 Volts.

Stupidity should be a crime, especially for drivers. I have NO patience for them.

It looks like they all have space for 10mm caps. If so, you could use these for all of them. does the PCB also allow for a through-hole cap to go where the SMD one currently is?
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

c_hegge - the back side of the board allows for through-hole components under all of the smd caps.

In that case, the 330uF Sanyo SEP caps should be fine for all of the 470uF 16V electrolytics.

          Thanks c_hegge.

Just ordered the caps from this site.

              They are Sanyo Os-Cons, 820uF 4 Volt.

I pulled one of the dreaded FZ's so you can see the label. It tested at 2x the published ESR at .07 ohms but the cap tested within spec at 465uF.

I suppose is wouldn't be too much longer before they

I received the poly's on Thursday and installed them on the video card. I ran it for about an hour yesterday and all is well. The remaining Sacon's all tested at .07mohm despite testing fine for uF.
