Gateway Profile 4, 2 Seconds to Black

    Hello,
I just replaced 4 kzg 1500 ufd 16V (swollen) caps on the main board of a Gateway Profile 4 with
2 seconds to black symptom. (Display visible with flashlight) with 4 25V Low ESR caps.
(A Profile 4 is a combo PC and display .)

    No change in the symptom.
A Gateway Profile thread from 2005 shows two types of main boards, mine is more like the "improved" one with a large heat sink near the caps. Testing/changing CCFL's is new to me.
I haven't removed the metal backing from the LCD display.

I guess to avoid appearing totally newb, I'll do some more searching on this site about testing inverters and CCFL's. but if you are familiar with specifics of this Gateway chimera, I'd be interested in some leads.

    Thanks!

if you can find the actual inverter circuit, it might be some tiny startup caps near that

2 seconds to black can be

      a) bad caps
      b) bad ccfls
      c) bad ccfl wiring (especially the return wiring)
      d) bad secondary windings on the inverter transformer

There are a bunch (10+) of silver colored caps on the board as well, the tops have a blue part (negative lead mark?) and 860 4V, are these also "usual suspects"?
