    PNY geforce 240

    Long story short
Bought this on ebay, but the card was lose in the package and the capacitor broke off during shipment
I want to solder it back but the legs were borken and are too short to make contact

I want to find a replacement, but I have no idea how

    here are some pictures.

The capacitor are about 6 centimeters in diameter

    any help would be great

    R,
Most any small SMT E Lytic would do the trick.
Just tack something on, watch the polarity (the notched graphic on the card and the cap base) and see what happens.

Could not be any worse than the situation as it stands now.

      i think its

      2.5V 560uF

      am i right?

        jack,

doesn't voltage matter? so most small solid capacitor would work?

          It's a Nichicon FP-CAP 2.5v 560uF [Functional Polymer].
9YA is a date or batch code.
The F after it ID's the series but at the moment I can't find my cheat-sheet.
          .
The FP-CAP line used be owned by Fujitsu and was bought out by Nichicon.
Older [Fujitsu] FP-CAPs will have a stylized F with a bar above and below as a brand trademark.
          .

I found some 820uF 2.5v 8mm Polymer Capacitor on the badcaps online store

            would these work?

Your old cap is SMD - Surface Mount.
I don't think BCN stocks those.

Can't I still mount this as SMD?
Can't i just bend the pins flat?

In the USA Digikey.com and Mouser.com are best.

Odds are the lead spacing will be too far off and you'll end up with a mess.
Since you have to order anyway, order the right kind.

Looks like you may have something missing from the CY1 position also.
Find some pics of the card online and look if something is there.

What is the diameter of the cap in mm?

the diameter of the cap is about 6 mm

that is the closest i can find

I checked the photos from newegg, nothing on CY1 position, thanks for pointing it out though

I just looked at mouser and all theirs are 8mm so Digikey it is.
                        I'll look over there now.

                          #1 - Are you sure it's 6mm and not 8mm diameter?

#2 measuring from center of the holes, about 2mm

Okay, this one is a radial that has a 2mm lead spacing so the leads will line up correctly with the old base.
Do what you were thinking about and stick the leads through and bend them over to make it an SMD.
The ESR is also .007 ohms so it's consistent [in range] with the better spec'ed FP-CAPs.
The Ripple is 4200 mA [4.2 amps] which is pretty healthy.
It's 5mm so it should sit all the way into the base.
                              .
The one you mentioned earlier has a wider lead spacing [3.5mm or 5mm] and won't work out very well for that.
That one might even end up being too tall after assembled because the cap won't sit all the way into the base due to having to bend the leads to fit.
                              .
                              http://search.digikey.com/us/en/prod...7-1-ND/2239202
                              .
If the spacing on the holes is actually 2.5mm [or you want to enlarge them] there are other options in 6mm with a 2.5mm lead space.
The advantage would be that you could choose a cap with little a higher ripple rating.
[From what's available at digikey the ESR would be the same.]
                              .

                                  Note:
When you assemble it remember there is a "+" lead and a "-" lead.
The half moon of paint [sometimes it's a stripe] marks the negative lead.
The "+" is marked on the PC Board.
