    IBM NetVista recap Question?

I have a IBM NetVista computer which has 6 leaking YEC capacitors
    6.3V 1000uf LZ 105°C

The other small YEC LZ caps( 6.3V 330uF) is fine visually.

Question: Should I replace the small Yec caps ?

    A picture would be helpful.

Certainly replace the six bad. As the other caps the same type it might be prudent to change them. They are not expensive. Assuming you can get replacements.

That is funny the same thing happened to me on my 4 year old IBM netvista.
4 of the YEC 1500uF elc caps were leaking and 6 of the 1000uF were leaking also.

It ran solid but was intermittently loseing the keyboard and mouse on reboots and then would reboot itself a few times in a loop. Here is an ebay pic of a guys selling a replacement motherboard and shows the blow caps.

I am in the process of just getting the caps and soldering them. I already removed them.

YEC is among the few bad caps that bulge and go bad even when left powered off on the shelf, or even when new in their original packing. They're worse than Gloria, GSC, Tayeh, etc. It's kind of bizarre how it got past IBM's stringent qualification process - maybe it's no longer that stringent, and the warranty returns are the reason they had to sell out to Legend/Lenovo.

Change all YEC caps, even those that aren't bulging - they'll eventually bulge.

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...
