    8800gt with a bad capacitor.

    Hello,

I have what appears to be a bad capacitor on the graphics card. Looks like a piece of rubber (atleast I think it's rubber) that blew through the bottom. I hope you can see it more clearly on the pic.

From what i've read that particular capacitor isn't crucial.
"The one and only generic electrolytic capacitor! We found this lone ranger cleaning up the 12V supply where other manufacturers would have left a blank spot."

So my question, is it safe to simply leave the cap there or should I remove it ?

    Thanks.

If it blew it means it was doing something. Without it, the card may get unstable in some situations. I would replace it with a better quality cap.

The only remaining question is who made the thing and its series. If we knew that, the parametrics of the capacitor can be obtained from its datasheet and a suitable high quality non-generic japanese manufactured capacitor installed in it's place. 220uf @16v is a dead common value, should be easy to locate.

Besides the capacitance and voltage all I can read from it is that it's manufactured by Rifeking, it says it's low ESR and that it's rated at 105 C.
