I knew something wasn't right I just couldn't figure out what without roasting ya..
Your name is Pyro after all. I figure you can handle heat..

A Soltek with an AFU BIOS I can believe.

    *facepalm*
    Soltek, not Soyo

    >No, it sounds like he knocked the plug loose.
Nah. Other ports failed the same.

    Oh, I see it now.
Failed to detect the USB keyboard once huh.
Yup that's some problem all right, all Soyo's fault obviously.

Can't see how you had an nforce2 on a Soyo though....
    nForce2 came out July 2002.
Soyo's "All mobos' list included discontinued boards at least back to Socket 7.

Here's 'All mobos' list for Dec 2002.
    http://replay.web.archive.org/200212...cts/select.php
    - No nVidia chipsets at all.

Here's 'All mobos' list for Aug 2003.

    - No nVidia chipsets at all.

Here's 'All mobos' list for Dec 2004
    http://replay.web.archive.org/200412...cts/select.php
    - One nVidia chipset. An nForce3.
    - That does not support Barton.
    http://replay.web.archive.org/200412...desc.php?id=16

Checking Nov 2006 shows no new/other Soyo + nVidia boards.

Interesting that you had an nForce2 on a Soyo when Soyo never used that chipset.
Also interesting that you used a Barton on a Soyo nForce board when they never made an nForce board that supports Barton.

    Geriatric moment?

Bios did not recognise USB keyboard despite being successfully detected with everyday use in the past few months.
Disable, save and exit and reenable, cured the problem.

    That was pretty vague.
    So describe the problem then.

Where did I say the problem manifested itself in OS ? It was in pre-boot environment and had absolutely nothing to do with any os.

    Nope.
Same problem on multiple brands of mobo is not a BIOS issue.

That's not even true. Quite common in fact...

That's why nVidia released this driver for "General compatibility fixes".

Please note: Release date on that driver was: September 17, 2004
It came out AFTER XP SP2 and so obviously was not included in SP2.

No, the cap is fine. Other USB ports (front and bracket) didn't work as well. It was completely a software issue, like something locked machine up and couldn't read USB.

Is not a "Soyo issue" then.
Just happens to be on a Soyo.

I think integrated nForce2 USB and Xp

Last time it failed to detect USB keyboard - had to disable then reenable USB keyboard support with PS/2 keyboard.

Otherwise, it runs perfectly smooth with barton@2GHz@1.5V (passive cooling)
