Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
Sound like I need to make a new post maybe, I'm still learning at that other testing. I learning some from this monitor last time you helped me with the transistors. I guess I can get this one going and then start an new post on the other, maybe you could direct me on the testing of those parts in the other possiblely ?Leave a comment:

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
If I'm lucky enough nowadays to get a lcd monitor, I don't know the history so I will test the bridge rectifier, fuses, power mosfet, inverter transformer with ohms to see if they are okay. After I replace the caps, I will check DC voltage to make sure they are stable.
In addition, I will measure the uF of the new caps and bad caps.
All the above probably takes less than 10 minutes.Leave a comment:

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
Great, that is good to know. I have a feeling I will run into that, I know I have a Atari I have to still jimmy rig bagtogether. I Got a new NOS wire connector but a bunch of traces are really bad, so time permitting I will be doing that.
Thanks, and I will post how I made out on the monitor,
Oh one more question if you don't mind. I had to waste a new post. I bought more caps for another monitor(acer 1706) same problem but that had bulging caps. I didn't test the caps or anything else. I I am jsut going to replace the caps and fireher up and see How I make out. Since the caps are bulging I thought that would be the way to go and not wate time testing other stuff, will that be ok, That is replacing the caps and if there was another problem Im guessing I won't cause any more harm buy doing so?Leave a comment:

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
Yes.
If I had to run a jumper would I just run it to the nearest trace in the same circuit, and in most cases it wouldn't matter what the component is?Leave a comment:

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
Thank you, I hope to get the rest of the soldering tonight them, when I get a moment and report back
I was amazed at how the easy the trace came, off this is only the second monitor I have worked on and the other seemed to have much better traces I'm guessing. I have had problems with traces on really on stuff like the Atari 2600, but was a little shocked on this on. I will reall be more careful now knowing these are that delicate. I another Acer to work on so will see.
Will I be ok on the Transisstors as well?
Out of Curiosity, and for future reference. If I had to run a jumper would I just run it to the nearest trace in the same circuit, and in most cases it wouldn't matter what the component is? I have had to run a jumper once I believe but it was for something minor like a battery connection or or for a trace for a wire harness. I wasn't sure if something like a Cap or a Transistor or Voltage regulator would make a difference or a re mroe touchy as long as it a connection. I didn't know if wire size and such would matter much?
Thanks,
NickLeave a comment:

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
Personally, I have done something similar and find the new caps will still work fine as long as their is some solder pad left. I just choose really good caps so they last and hope I don't have to resolder anytime soon.
Others may have different viewpoints, but I think you will be okay if you just leave them.
I have also actually lifted the entire solder pad and then had to put in jumper wires to get connectivity.Leave a comment:

A really good clear focused picture (close up) using the manage attachments function would help us make a judgement call.Leave a comment:

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
Hi,
I finally was able to get some KSD1691s and replacement caps. Resoldered all the caps last night but ran into another problem, I needed a little assistance on. A few traces partialy came off. I had 2 caps do that yesteday and noticed one of the dual Diode traces and one of the Transitor Traces had this probelm. It looks like they each are have about 1/3 to a little less than 1/2 of the traces gone. Of the 4 I looks like they attached part of the trace is still part of the circuit. Should I just leave them, or connected a wire or solder the connection further back(for the caps if possible) to a connection in the circuit. I noticed on the caps that there are traces that are not used that I could soldier the cap to or a jumper wire. ANy help would be greatlly appreciated. I had to do the smoke test and have a problem because of the traces

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
On some Benq boards the c5707s are famous for being shorted because of the poorly soldered transformers. You may want to resolder your transformer pins to prevent future KSD1691s from shorting.Leave a comment:

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
Well I'm not a circuit board designer, but if the fuse (I can't see it in your picture) is rated for 3A, I think you can go with the lower 4A replacement part.
There may be more than one fuse on the power/inverter board including a picofuse (starts with PF).Leave a comment:

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
I just went to order the parts and Digikey and aparentlly all the other places have no stock of KSD1691. The only thing they did have was a a replacement part that was rated the same accept the Amps. it was 4 Amps rated instead of 5. I'm thinking I better not get it. Since the originals shorted but would this work?

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
Sounds good, one less thing to buy
I guess I might have to look in to a autorangin one in the future. That sound srather handy. I do have a analog meter, but haven't gotten to use it.Leave a comment:

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
If you set your multimeter to 2000K ohm on the dial and retest you might actually get a reading that is not 1. If it stills show 1, that means the resistance is greater than 2M.
This is why I prefer autoranging meters.Leave a comment:

Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light
So the Transistor may be ok then? I don't actually see it change, or flash real quick like I noticed before on a lower scale(20 OHMS) it would change real quick then go to 1.
Just making suring I explaing it rightLeave a comment:

1 indicates inifinity or over range. My meter displays 0L.Leave a comment:

Sorry, its Model 82141
If I touch the probes. THe numbers do change. from a 1 on the left to a .2 on the 200Ohms scaleLeave a comment:

If you touch your two probes together, what ohms reading do you get?Leave a comment:

by paulyboySystem doesnt post, I have found that 3v 5v and 19v rails present and accounted for.
theres 19.5v with a 2amp current drawover usb c charging
I have tried a new bios and cleaned me region but no change in behaviour.
I have noticed that the Mosfet PU4403 gets quite hot 60 degrees, but cannot find a short on it or surround components also pu4401 which is the BQ charging chip is also quite hot 60 degrees.
Have removed BQ and checked pads but no shorts.
Also on PU4405 PIN 2-4 is suppose to be 19v as per schematic 19V_dcbatout...09-12-2023, 05:32 PM -
