  • Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light

Sound like I need to make a new post maybe, I'm still learning at that other testing. I learning some from this monitor last time you helped me with the transistors. I guess I can get this one going and then start an new post on the other, maybe you could direct me on the testing of those parts in the other possiblely ?

Great, that is good to know. I have a feeling I will run into that, I know I have a Atari I have to still jimmy rig bagtogether. I Got a new NOS wire connector but a bunch of traces are really bad, so time permitting I will be doing that.

Thanks, and I will post how I made out on the monitor,
Oh one more question if you don't mind. I had to waste a new post. I bought more caps for another monitor(acer 1706) same problem but that had bulging caps. I didn't test the caps or anything else. I I am jsut going to replace...

Thank you, I hope to get the rest of the soldering tonight them, when I get a moment and report back
I was amazed at how the easy the trace came, off this is only the second monitor I have worked on and the other seemed to have much better traces I'm guessing. I have had problems with traces on really on stuff like the Atari 2600, but was a little shocked on this on. I will reall be more careful now knowing these are that delicate. I another Acer to work on so will see.

Will I be ok on the Transisstors as...

  • Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light

    Hi,
I finally was able to get some KSD1691s and replacement caps. Resoldered all the caps last night but ran into another problem, I needed a little assistance on. A few traces partialy came off. I had 2 caps do that yesteday and noticed one of the dual Diode traces and one of the Transitor Traces had this probelm. It looks like they each are have about 1/3 to a little less than 1/2 of the traces gone. Of the 4 I looks like they attached part of the trace is still part of the circuit. Should I just leave them, or connected...

  • Re: Gateway FPD2275W LCD Monitor Bad Caps Reassembly

I have tried the screw driver method now and that does work well, take a little to get the hang of it,I know that Gateway was a lot trickyier than the others's I have opened since(still working on the others(parts needed)
Thanks again for the pointers, I still owe you a update on the Acer Monitor you where helping me with back in August, I needed parts and finally have gotten them ordered. THe one Transistor was on backorder so I kinda put everything on hold and had no time after that. Just ordered the parts today so I...

  • Re: Gateway LP2207 /FPD2275W Bad Caps need help

    Hi,
I ended up just replacing the 2 bad Ceramic caps and all the other Electrolyte Caps except the Large on o nteh AC side. I wasn't able to find out what the replacement part was for the other ceramic cap. So far so good it's been working well since July. Lord willing those other caps will keep working
Thanks for the response/ help Greatlly appreciate it

I just went to order the parts and Digikey and aparentlly all the other places have no stock of KSD1691. The only thing they did have was a a replacement part that was rated the same accept the Amps. it was 4 Amps rated instead of 5. I'm thinking I better not get it. Since the originals shorted but would this work?
    Thanks,

Sounds good, one less thing to buy
I guess I might have to look in to a autorangin one in the future. That sound srather handy. I do have a analog meter, but haven't gotten to use it.

So the Transistor may be ok then? I don't actually see it change, or flash real quick like I noticed before on a lower scale(20 OHMS) it would change real quick then go to 1.
Just making suring I explaing it right

    Sorry, its Model 82141
If I touch the probes. THe numbers do change. from a 1 on the left to a .2 on the 200Ohms scale

It's a Craftsman. Your right the 1 is on the left side. It will be there before you test anything also. So beasiclly it didn't change when I tested.

  • Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light

Thanks for he Advise on other Caps Brands/Series I can get for replacement. THat was very helpful. I finally got my list of Caps to order but I noticed on the board where the 2 bad Transistors are another Transitor Q203
right next to the Coil. The board looked a littl brown under that too, I thought I would test in circuit. Looks ok(from what I have learned) about 800 or so ohms testing 1-2, 1-3 and 2-3. but I noticed the headsink was not solderwell and was loose once I unscrewed the cover that was screwed into it. the solder...

Sounds good. I will get the shorted Transistors and replace the caps. Question on the Caps though. Im replacing them with Panazonic FM ones but I can't find replacement ones for the lower UF Caps The FM series(from Digi=Key doesn't have any) what other series is Low ESR that might. I didn't have any luck finding lower ESR(not labled for the other series) Maybe the EB series?...

Thanks for pointing out about the Caps Jetadm123.
I should probably repalce them they are Elite Caps.
I will start getting the info and look them up and see what I can find. Im glad you pointed that out. Since it should be that much for the caps. If some parts already went the Caps will probablly next. Since that seems common anyways.
    Thanks!

  • Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light

Thats a real good point about the pics. I will try and remember to take pics ahead time next time.

I do see the little pic. That makes a little more sense now. Although I have never seen one of these before
The W2156 tests 1-2 160 3-2 160 and 1 in the other direction for both. I unfortunatlly don't have 0l on my meter. Iwish it was 0l instead of 1! makes it a little less confusing.
The other one N 6b is 1-2 236 3-2 236 and 1 in the other direction for both.

Does that mean there both good...

"Any board with RoHS probably uses lead free solder. It is tougher to remove that your 60/40 solder. Using 60/40 with rosin core helps."

That would explain why it's been taking so long then I thought that seemed a little odd

"Sorry, where are these on the board? I can't see them. Can I get pictures of these?"

I just attached pics of where they are located and pic of the Transistors out of the board(best pic I could get)

    "Those 4 transistors should...

    Thank!,
I finally got another few mintues to get back to this. I really want to get his going and greatlly appreciate your help and paitience

I will replace both of those transistors, but I will wait to get them till I make sure I don't anything else. I fixed a bunch of the cold solder joints. Ther are sure enough of them. Looks like its anothing that needs a lot of heat. Must be there equipment couldn't keep up.
Those Diodes are three pin instead of 2. How do I test these. Each is a different Part#...

  • Re: Acer 1716B no picture, Blinking power light

    Hi Sorry,
I just got to do this sorry it took so long. I took out those 2 and tested out of circuit the first one was as follows

    1-2 38
    1-3 225
    2-3 258

    Second

    1-2 25
    1-3 1.3
    2-3 29

Looks like the second one is shorted?
I tested all the others in circuit and they all where above 10 accept.
what looked like to voltage regualtors(they where labled D921 and D 922)
the 1-3 on both where 1.3. IS that something I should test...
