NEC 2080UXi - looks dead but power led lit all the time

I posted this originally on fixya but no response. Hopefully this forum can help.

I have an NEC 2080UXi and the power led indicator is lit as soon as I plug in power and will not power off. Back light never comes on. Capacitors appear to be fine - no bulging or leaking. I did notice that a resistor did burn up and appears to be a small wattage from size of the leads. Does anyone know what resistance R915 is? It's located under the middle heat sink on the power supply board (the brown coloured board).

I posted a picture (from another person on fixya) of what the insides look like except the capacitor on my power board appears fine.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

The pic is so far zoomed out, I can't make out any of the writing on the power board.

Odd that it won't power off. Long shot, but try setting the monitor back to factory settings via front panel menus.

If that doesn't work, test the on/off switch for continuity with DMM.

Does the power LED color change when a signal is applied ("on" versus "sleep" modes)? Also, check for a blown fuse around the inverter power.

As soon as the power cable is plugged in the power led is lit. It never goes to "sleep" mode. As I originally stated there is resistor that burned away - so there must be a problem somewhere.

            Hello,

I have the same monitor, with the same problem. But, the resistor that you point at in my case is there,
If you are interested, I can try to get a photo of it, so you can see its value from the colours.

Do you know if it is possible to replace this power supply, or do you know of somebody that has got schematics and perhaps could repair it?
It is such a pity to lose the nice monitor, because of 1-2 resistors that burned out...

            Best regards,

            Eli

The resistor probably didn't burn up on it's own. The failure is usually caused by another component failing. Test other components surrounding the resistor for shorts.

I am having the exactly same problem with this. Anyone knows a solution for this?

                      Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

Power supply Manson NTP-5561 (5661) LCD controller dead - PIC18F87K90 HEX dump required
                      by Andreas_de
                      Hello!

i got a damaged Manson NTP-5561 (60V, 1,6A DC output) and and the main issue is that the controler IC for the LCD display has a short. The controler IC PIC18F87K90 is mounted on the back of the back of the LCD. Vss-Vdd = 3 Ohm. The 5V and 3,3V power line was killed as well, but that is not a problem. A new LDO 3,3V and 5V 7805 is already ordered.
Replacing the PIC18F87K90 is necessary but that makes no sense without having the HEX dump of the new controler.

Does anybody have such a power supply and could do a HEX dump of the Flash and EEPROM memory?

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                      by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
