    Bad capacitor on Westinghouse L1916hw

    Hi all,

    I got a broken LCD monitor from work- figured I would try to fix it b/c it was going to be thrown away. The issue is that it produced a fully white screen when powered on. It also had a burning smell. So, I took the monitor apart etc. I found a burned spot on the inverter around a small capacitor. I have no idea what the rating is for this capacitor. Also, I was wondering if I replaced the capacitor if it would fix the issue b/c perhaps the circuits had been damaged..?

    I tried to google for a schematic for the inverter to get the rating on the cap, but I failed to come up with one.

    Anyway, here are my questions:

    1.Judging by the included pic, do you think it is possible to repair the inverter by replacing the cap, or does the board look like it has circuit damage from that burn?
    2. If I do replace the capcitor, how do I find the rating for it? Do I have to have the schematic? Any suggestions on how to get the info I need?

      Excellent spotting.

      See if you can pick a large ceramic capacitor from another junk board like this?

          ok, will see what i can find. I have some old junk PSUs and video cards etc.. maybe they have some in there. Thanks.

              Does it have to be the same size, or can it be a bit bigger?

                  When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.


                  Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor.So I visited local electronics shop,and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.
                  But when I browse through rubycon YK datasheet,I found that there is no ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf specification. But On the contrary, I found 39 mA ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf SMS capacitor.

                  12/24 volt compressor cooler box inverter capacitor failure

                  This is my son’s cooler for his semi truck for his drinks the other day it started short cycling ( running for a second or two then shutting down ) and restarting four or five times then going into an error power cycle the controller then it would do the same thing again

                  Found a 47uf@63 volts double the ESR value of a new one
                  The 220uf@16 volts same as a new but 220uf@35 volt replacement capacitor

                  The main filtering capacitor was not replaced because I did not have that was not too tall

                  Where the 220uf capacitor is some type of switching power...

                  Hi people, I hope this is the correct spot to post this, I'm new to the forum.

                  I have an RTX 3080 Founders Edition which has a burnt up capacitor (it was in parallel with another capacitor which appears damaged too), so I am hoping to be able to identify the capacitor values and order replacements.

                  I hope these photos make it clear which component I am referring to:
                  (yes, the soldering is a bit botched from removing the blown one, I know)

                  I encountered my first dead motor run capacitor at a customer this week.
                  For some fields I guess it is a very common occurrence but the usual way for industrial machines here is to use 3-phase motors.
                  (Unless a servo motor makes more sense that is).
                  But for some reason this 3-phase machine uses a 1-phase motor for its liquid coolant pump.
                  The pump would run but sometimes trip the 10A breaker.

                  I'm reading an article about the "capacitor plaque" in early 2000s and I have found one sentence I cannot understand.
                  The normal lifespan of a non-solid electrolytic capacitor of consumer quality, typically rated at 2000 h/85 °C and operating at 40 °C, is roughly 6 years. It can be more than 10 years for a 1000 h/105 °C capacitor operating at 40 °C.

                  What this 2000h or 1000h means? Why 1000h capacitors have longer life span?
