    Samsung Syncmaster 740N

Hi. My Monitor does not display anything. Sometimes It works if I leave it on for a day or 2 but when I turn it off for a while I have to leave it on again for days. It gets worse every time I do this. What seems to be the problem? Thanks.

I agree. Replace the set of caps on the upper right corner of first pic.

Thanks a lot guys! How much do those capacitors for my monitor usually costs and where can I usually buy them? This is the first time I will fix a monitor on my own. Thanks again.

          Hi Levistus

if you have a solder and you can replace the bad caps it will cost you few $, it depends on where you live.
You can buy caps from this site, ask to Topcat or you can read this thread.

How do I know what type of capacitor I should buy? I'm from the Philippines and this is where I will buy http://philippines.rs-online.com. Thanks.

You want a 'good' brand high temperature (105°C), low ESR; I prefer Panasonic FC series. I note that RS carries them. Their web site is not real good for selecting parts, but that can be worked around.

How about we do this: List the following information on the capacitors you want to replace: Capacity, Voltage, Diameter, Length, and quantity. You can either look the parts up on the RS web site and post what you believe are the proper parts, or you can simply list the above information and someone (possibly me) will list the replacement.

How do I find these information? Are they written at the side of the capacitors themselves? or should i look the capacitor name in my monitor? i"m going to check the capacitors after i post this. Thanks!

                  Re: Samsung Syncmaster 740N

The values are clearly stated on the side of the capacitor. Be sure to get the same V rating (voltage, or a bit higher ok.) The uF value should be the same (I have used slightly more capacitance, but sometimes this will cause issues, so stick with the same value). There is also a temperature rating. ALWAYS use 105 dgreee caps in these and all modern electronics! Hope this helps.

I use a small ruler. Usually you can measure them while they are still in place.
