    Frankenstein???

So this is my first attempted repair of an LCD monitor, so if I sound like a noob, it's because I am. I started out with an Acer 19" widescreen monitor. The power supply was apparently bad, so it was donated to my closet. I just recieved a Samasung Syncmaster 906BW with a broken screen from my neigbor...you guessed it, together they go. Now I have a display showing up and it's being recognized by XP as a Samsung monitor, but after about 30 minutes of use, I get the vertical white lines, then blank screen. Has anyone ever tried this before? Am I looking at possible bad caps? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Just to clarify, it was an Acer screen/panel/display, being used in a Samsung housing with the Samsung logic board(I think), and power board. The monitor works great for a bit, then after about an hour, sometimes less, it will flicker, then greywash with vertical white lines, and then go black. If I turn off the monitor for a few minutes, the display will work again briefly.

      A sugestion if I may
Put the panel back in the Acer its easier to to repair a P/Supply than a logic board or panel (not many logic boards or panels get repaired, replaced yes)
Besides your problem may be a compatability issue, you may just put it on one of these days and find panel Kaput because of compatibility issue, is it worth the risk
Then ask for help on Acer

Unfortunately, I do not have the power supply or logic board from the Acer unit. If it is a compatibility issue, would it work for any period of time, or would it just not work at all? The backlight power connections are the same, and the ribbon inputs are the same # of pins. Everything plugs up nicely, with no "extra wires".

It may be worth recapping logic board, as you dont seem to have anything to loose, you may get lucky
but best to post the two panel numbers and ask
as there are members that may be able to tell you if they are compatible, just because they fit does not make them compatible

but a cap might be problem, good luck

The lamps are not much of a problem. The problem can be the panel, even if connectors match. What model are the panels, both the broken and the non-broken one?

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

How to force Acer Aspire Series to bootup BIOS/UEFI on external Monitor?
              by maralexbar
I ask this question in general as there are many Acer Aspire models with UEFI Insyde BIOS that do not boot to the BIOS on an external monitor (VGA, HDMI, etc) showing only the Internal LCD (LVDS, eDP etc).
It's a pain to work on Acer notebooks with a broken screen and not being able to access the BIOS using an external monitor.

If anyone knows how to force the external monitor as primary for Notebooks of those models
