    ccfl tube replacement

I recently tore apart a Dell E173fpb 17" lcd display and discovered that one of the four backlight tubes was hooched.

From searching around on the internet, I see it's hard to get much info on the exact specs of these things. I found what looks like a close match for the one I need, but I want to be sure to get the right one as far as starting and runing voltages are concerned. Does anyone know what theses voltages are?

Has anyone replaced on of these lamps on one of these displays? If so, do you have a part number and source where you purchased it from?

It looks like this is the only problem with this display and it would be a shame to toss it out. Any help would be most appreciated.

There are no 'standard' sizes for backlight tubes. As far as I can figure it, the two variables are the diameter and the length. A Google search for CCFL backlight will pick up several suppliers, as will a search on eBay.

The cheapest source may be a defective monitor.

Thanks for the reply, but as I mentioned in my post, it's the voltages I'm concerned with. Won't applying too high or too low a voltage to replacement cause problems?

Checking a few suppliers, the operating voltage seems to be determined by the length and diameter. Even that is minor. A 2 mm x 430 mm backlight is rated for 1050 V @ 5 ma. A 2.6 mm x 430 mm backlight is rated at 886 V @ 5 ma. A 30% in crease in diameter (70% increase in cross sectional area) results in a 16% decrease in voltage.

HANNSG Hi221 -- 2 secs to black feat. CCFL flicker & "burn" marks on power board
          by ttmi100x
          Greetings everyone,

I have a HANNSG Hi221 monitor that exhibits two seconds to black issues (backlight goes off, display is still on as confirmed by shining a flashlight on it) with some additional oddities...

The monitor failed on me with a standard "2 seconds to black" some time ago prompting me to initially replace most of the electrolytic capacitors (some of them were bulging/leaking).
Things kinda sorta worked for a night, then the problem returned along with some flickering and "buzzing" noises.

          Upon closer inspection...

This was rescued from a recycle gaylord from a hospital along with some other things....

I don't have to explain the significance of restoring this; 16:10 Aspect Ratio, 1920x1200; very high end Samsung LTM240CT04 panel. Add in it's blonde (will pair nice with a retro rig) and also ELO touchscreen. It is very well made, very heavy. Even used these are hard to find and expensive....but it had some problems...

Problem one, the external PSU was missing. I found one in my stash that had the correct voltage (12V) with the goofy 4-pin plug it used. It however was light on the...

Help on Samsung Syncmaster T220 dead ccfl lamp
          by mikey5791
          Hi,

This monitor previously is my main working monitor which i have been using for 8~9 years. Yesterday, when i switched on my pc from fresh to power on, the monitor is just black no display. I started dismantle to look inside the monitor power board but nothing looks suspicious or burnt. So i took my external ccfl inverter to try to power the monitor ccfl lamps which consisted of 2 lamps on upper part and 2 lamps on the lower part.

Found out the upper ccfl lamp which is supposed to connect to cn304 on the power board did not light up. Then i installed a used working...

Macbook Air M2 A2681 Kernel panics after screen replacement
          by reformatt
Just had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".

It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...

Unknown transformer : how to find a good replacement part ?
          by the_rem
          Hello guys,

I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.

I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow...
