Hello everyone,
I am having a rather weird problem with my good old ViewSonic VA1912w (I think it is the same as the VA1912wb, b just is for black). This model has an audio-in socket (because no HDMI back then) for the integrated speakers. During a short time of a few days the sound started to sound tinny/brassy, and then stopped completely. What is left is some annoying noise. Since it was an old monitor already when that happened, I just connected my stereo and used that instead of the built-in speakers. Though, I seem to recall that also the picture got worse, loosing some color depth and showing "stressful" noise/flickering on grey windows.
So, I moved to a new place and my home setup is different now. Since I just recapped my also older graphics card, I thought to look around the net to see for possible fixes for this monitor. I found some people with a total failure of the monitor, but only one who claimed the sound was not working. For him it seemed to only occur if connected via DVI. So I tried connecting the VGA cable to the other port of my graphics card, and switched the input. Well, first I heard something and thought: That's the solution! But as soon as the picture appeared on the monitor, the sound went to pure noise again.
So, to test a bit more, I just connected to audio-jack to my phone and let it play music: if I turn on the monitor, audio starts playing. Also, if it is showing "No input detected" on the screen. But as soon the picture feed from the pc is displayed, the noise is back and sound stops. Well, today I took the thing apart and found 2 faulty caps: 220 uF/25 V located on the power PCB, that also hold the audio connector. However, all is fed to the logic board, and from there the sound should go to the speakers.
Now I am wondering, is there a chance replacing the capacitors will bring the sound back? Or is it likely some fried up logic processors/mosfets?
I found this (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...light=va1912wb) thread with a very good documentation on the connectors. I only found this after I reassembled the screen, but I didn't wanna steal the pics, so I am referencing them here. I hope it is not too much to ask to look at the other thread.
I'd really appreciate ANY input on this. I am definitely going to change the 2 faulty caps and see what that'll bring, hopefully a total fix.
EDIT: Well, I felt like putting some of my own pics would make it easier to get a first grasp!
