  • Re: ViewSonic VA1912w audio mutes with active signal

So, I just replaced the two 220 uF caps. The other's looked still good and I was too excited to wait for more parts while the 220 uF had arrived They're Panasonic FC series, couldn't find a source for FM or FZ series with reasonable pricing.

The result is: PERFECT. First of, the colors look more vibrant again. Color transitions are smoother (as much as it can be for a 6-bit display). And, more importantly, the sound is back! Also lowering the brightness has no ill-effect anymore.

Did some additional testing: if I start turning down the brightness from the OSD, the sound comes back and get's better/clearer the more I turn brightness down. However, as soon as I go 2 steps of brightness down, the monitor starts to show flickering horizontal lines moving upwards.

  • ViewSonic VA1912w audio mutes with active signal

    Hello everyone,

I am having a rather weird problem with my good old ViewSonic VA1912w (I think it is the same as the VA1912wb, b just is for black). This model has an audio-in socket (because no HDMI back then) for the integrated speakers. During a short time of a few days the sound started to sound tinny/brassy, and then stopped completely. What is left is some annoying noise. Since it was an old monitor already when that happened, I just connected my stereo and used that instead of the built-in speakers. Though, I seem to recall that also the picture got worse, loosing some color...

Hello dear fellows and greeting from Germany.

I just repaired my old graphics card for the 2nd time by replacing the remaining bad caps. Now I am looking around my other appliances that are faulty and I am trying to get them back to work. Professionally, I have nothing to do with electronics, so this is just a hobby. One that I started from very young (soldering from elementary school), though I never was ambitious or spendable enough for bigger projects to advance in this field. I had a short return to microprocessors...
