ok, so i cant actually pull it apart any more, because we don't know what we did with our soldering iron, might've returned it, might've lost it. Anyways, i did the best i could, to measure them on board, and got this Which to me, looks to be around 18-19 mm. The heatsink looks to be 20 mm even.

I assume that the ruler does not start right at the tip and since it looks like that foam pad on the heatsink is around 3mm that the 22s should fit ok

you can slide a piece of paper down to the board and mark the paper then measure that if the ruler does not go all the way down

we can go shorter but the heat ratings and amps on the shorter ones are not as good

Good catch on the ruler length. I'll go ahead and order them as soon as I can. due to problems with finding the soldering iron, i decided to go ahead and replace the monitor for now. That way, if I do manage to repair it, I'll have a second screen, which I've wanted for a while, anyways.

ok, i finally got some money to do this with, my last question, for the moment, is, should i worry about the quality of the soldering iron that I'll I'll have to buy? we did some TV repair with a relatively cheap ~25 dollar one from Radioshack, but these pins appear to be much more tightly packed than the TV was.
