Samsung T190 Monitor goes off after 10 Mins.

My Samsung T190 Monitor goes black after switching on for about 10 minutes. After shutting it down for 5 minutes, and switch on again, it comes on but goes off again after about 10 mins. Checked the power supply board and all the capacitors seem to be fine (no bulge) but I replaced all of them (9 in all) plus a diode. It made no difference. Same fault still exists.
When screen is black, checked with a torch light shining on the screen, no visible faint image observed.
Any suggestion on the next move is much appreciated.

    Thanks, Jon

There are various tests to carry out to identify your problem,BUt photos of the Power Board, both sides are needed.use 'Go Advanced' below and then 'Manage Attachments'

Remove the covers and blow cool air (using a fan) over the boards. Then try running the monitor and see of that shutdown still occur after 10 minutes. If it doesn't then use a hair dryer and blow hot air over it. Again, wait for it to shutdown (perhaps even faster than 10 minutes), Sometimes when a component part has breakdown, it will manifest itself after some heating (ie. causing shorts or open, forcing the power to shutdown).

Hi Lexwalker, Thanks for the tip. But the point is if it does happen after blowing it with a hair dryer, it still does not tell you which component is faulty and needs replacement.

By heating up the boards to accelerate the shutdown process you may accomplish several things:

          1) determine which board, power supply or main board, is the cause of the problem. Either board can cause the problem you describe.

          2) determine which area of the board is causing the problem. By isolating the problem area of the board, you can start narrowing down which component is faulty. It could be a bad solder joint for all we know.

Definitely sounds like a problem that is thermal.

Why not take good quality back and front pics of the power and main boards and post them here, and we can try and help you diagnose the problem.

Again need photos, the fault could be, bad joints, poor contacts. bad backlights /Wiring etc etc.

Hi Jonathan, it definitely is a thermal problem. Had a fan blowing at the open up monitor, it was on for more than 30 minutes. Switched off the fan, it cut off after 25mins. By the way I have replaced 10 capacitors in all except one (C205). Also replaced one diode (D101) and a resistor (R31 -330kohms). Has not made any difference.

Attached please find the photo of the power board (front and back)

p/s: Notice that a chip (U2) got very hot as the PCB is dark brown in color. The heat sink is at the front of the board but the chip is at the back (with 5 legs)

                      jon koay,

have you ever update your monitors firmware????

                        Jhunvidz,
Since I bought the monitor , I have not updated any thing except use it. Actually I'm not too sure what you mean by updating the firmware.
My next move would be to add a addition piece of aluminium to the heat sink (HS202) to help in the heat dissipating process and mount a small 1.5" cooling fan (use for hard disk) over the heat sink.
Just like you, I have changed all the caps except the inverter transformer and has not make any difference. Now that I know its a thermal problem, I will just do that.
                        Will keep you posted. Regards,
                        Jon

                          Hi Jonathan,
finally I manage to solve the thermal problem by replacing Diode 201. at the back of diode, add new thermal paste (white) like those used in the motherboard processor heat sink. Don't need a fan to blow at the monitor now.
