NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 help required

    Hi all,

I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 that has 2 outputs, one is a 15pin D pin that I have my monitor connected to and the other is a DVI that I want to use my DVI-D to HDMI lead with to connect to my Wharfedale TV.

The problem is that nothing shows when I connect it to the TV.

Nothing shows that I have a second device connected on the 'Display settings' from the screen resolution option from right clicking on my desktop.

I can't see anything to change either to make it see the other device connected.

    Am I missing something here?

From my research, that video card is not Dual video cards, you can use one or the other video jack, not both.

ATI/AMD Radeon cards support 2 monitors since 4xxx series, maybe even some 3xxx series can but I'm not sure.

If you want new, this will work just fine: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161318

It has the old vga, dvi and hdmi (but only drives two monitors in total) and has hardware acceleration for hd movies if you use a proper movie player like media player classic home cinema for example.

Ignore the feedback comments though, they're full of stupidity.

You can probably find radeon 4350, 4450, 4570 etc with agp connector on ebay very cheap.

That card should be able to do what you want it to do. I have used FX 5200 cards in the past in duel view mode with no problems. I checked to make sure i was not mistaken, found the info in the tech briefs - dualview is supported.

            http://www.nvidia.co.uk/page/fx_5200_tb.html

If you look at the bottom of that page you will see the info about nview.

Have you tried to switch the dual display mode on from within the nvidia control panel itself? If you have the correct drivers installed you should be able to enter the nvidia control panel by right clicking your desktop - the control panel should be one of the options, will probably be called 'Nvidia Display'. If it's not in the right click menu, you should be able to get to it through the normal desktop properties. - Properties - Settings - Advanced. you should then see a tab at the top of that box for your FX 5200. If you do not have a tab there for your card, then you will need to reinstall the drivers.

Once in the control panel you should somewhere find the option of turning on the various dualview options.

Re: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 help required

              Hey thanks for your responses,

Steve, I decided to get a new driver for the card and all I could find was a vista version (Forceware 95)(being on win7 I knew this would work) so installed it and rebooted.
When it restarted I could instantly see a difference and the display settings were very small (was ok with that) so then I went looking for the control panel for nVidea to no avail absolutely ANYWHERE!!!!!

When I was in the display settings after right clicking I noticed that it even recognised my HP monitor, where before it said generic non PNP so I clicked discover to see if it found the tv that is also connected, then EVERYTHING went back to its original settings

with larger icons and showed non PNP monitor AGAIN

So now im back to the original settings it had previously but with the newer driver (Forceware 95) and even though it says it includes the control panel I cant see it ANYWHERE!!!!!

Not sure why the OP seems so determined to stick with the 5200 (unless It's an AGP?).
A GeForce 610 can be had for less than £30 from www.scan.uk and would be a significant upgrade.
From memory the FX series have been off the support list for some time now (hence the lack of native win7 drivers)

I have to stick with what I have due to SERIOUS lack of funds!!
EG: Motherboard = P4S800 (PROPER OLD)
Graphics Card = FX5200 (again old) and yes AGP
                  Processor = P4 2.66Ghz (want faster!)
                  Sound Card = Internal
                  RAM = 2.5Gb DDR

So unless I can get stuff given to me for free I have to make do with what I have and believe me I am on recycling sites always looking for upgradeable stuff! I won't even say what I used to be on as its far too embarrassing. lol

Re: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 help required

Firstly apologies for giving you instructions earlier that related to Xp, i now realise your on win7. However, something is not right, because i just booted into my win7 partition to check what steps would be different. Not much! Right clicking the desktop should still show the nvidia control panel link, plus you should also be able to get to it through the resolution settings - click on 'Screen Resolution', and then on the 'Advanced Settings' tab. But, it sounds like none of that is working for you.

I can think of one possibility, one problem i have found with Win7 in the past is not being able to figure out how to uninstall a current graphics driver in order to install a different one. Uninstalling is not the problem, but stopping win7 from automatically reinstalling it's generic driver again when you reboot is something i have had problems with.

Maybe the driver that comes with win7 is newer than the old one you are trying to use, thus win7 simply overrides and uses what it thinks is best.

Either way, i think your issue is certainly down to a non-compatibility between that card and win7, rather than the card not being able to do what you want it to. I would look in the device manager and see what driver win7 is actually using. Because with every single nvidia card i have ever used - and i only use nvidia, the nvidia control panel is always there.

The only other time i have had issues with access to the control panel is when i have used the drivers that actually came with the graphics card - different manufacturers of nvidia based cards sometimes like you to use there own take on the control panel.

Like i say, all you can do is check to see what driver win7 is actually using at the moment, if it's not the one you installed, well, something either messed up during the install, or win7 really cannot get along with that card. I have a feeling that could be the case.

One other thought, to check that there is not a problem with the wiring to your second monitor (tv), turn the pc off, then unplug the vga cable from the back of the graphics card that goes to your normal monitor, then reboot. In theory the pc will then detect the second monitor and switch to that for it's primary display. At least that way you will have confirmed that the card is actually capable of outputting on that port and your cables are good. ( a wiring fault will prevent a second monitor from being shown in windows.)
