EDIT: I LIED, all the big caps are KY the small 50v 47uf and less are taicon. Bad startup cap?


When the monitor is cold, it turns on fine and every time too. But after having it on for few hours, if you let the monitor go into standby then later wake it within 5 minutes the backlight kicks on for 2 seconds then goes out. You can still see an image but the backlight nonfunctional. If you turn it off and back on immediately it still goes out, but if you wait a good 5 or 10 minutes you can turn it back on without issue.

I can't tell if I have bad ccfl or a faulty component as a result of heat.

Is it possible the caps are bad?
There is some discoloration on the board around the small caps near the inverter?

You may be able to pinpoint the location using cold spray or use canned air duster upside down to cool down the component.

Well that's going to be hard to do.

The board is mounted in a metal case along with the input board, then that metal case is attached to the back of the lcd panel which makes it inaccessible, then the plastic housing goes over sealing it.

SO what would you do, remove the boards and lay them on cardboard?

EDIT: I think I answer my previous question, upper right screen is hot, actually hot across.

Well, we found a bad Chemicon startup cap on a Toshiba. It seems startup caps have a hard life, even if they are good caps.

I replaced the start up cap in the middle with a panny FC, but it had no effect.

I don't think I have a component issue, it seems that the top part of the screen is unusually hot, hotter then the rest of the screen with no apparent reason since it is well ventilated on the back. It takes some time for this part of the screen to cool down which is consistent with the time needed for it to turn back on.

Is it worth my time to replace the CCFL? How hard is it to do? Should I replace all of them? How much do ccfl cost?
