    How to Open Case on Westinghouse LCM-22W2

    I'm a noob that had great success with my broken Samsung monitor after following the advice on these pages and replacing some bad caps. You guys are great!

    Now my Westinghouse LCM-22W2 is no longer working and after running through the forums, I've got some great ideas on where to start. But, I'm stumped on step one - opening the silly plastic case! I'm guessing there are some plastic clips need to carefully be pried apart - but I don't know where they are. I'd love some advice on dis-assembly.

    Here are a couple of pics of the case in case anyone can edit or point me to the right procedure.

    Remove the Stand there is a plastic cover hiding the screws, and four screws at each corner of the monitor.
    Sorry there are no four screws at the corners.It most likley has snaps

      Not exactly the same monitor (22W3) but should come apart the same

        Thanks for all the help. There was a small cover that just snapped over the center of the back - with that pryed off I was able to get to the four screws that held the stand on. Then I used an iPOD tool to pry apart the plastic case.

        Anyway - some photo's attached for the next guy who has to open one of these. After getting to the motherboard - I found three 220uf CapXon Caps that were bulged. Using other data from this site I ordered new caps from Digi-Key

        (part number and description)
        493-1549-ND CAP 220UF 25V ELECT HE RADIAL 220UF CAP

        Will let you know how it goes..

          Did you use to tool to unsnap the clips at the bottom? There are like 4 or 5 of them. To pop them open, just push the tabs in with a small screwdriver (or anything that is small and stiff enough), you have go through the slits. They will make a popping sound when they come unlatch and the 1/2 will separate slightly. Work you way across the board till you get all of them othewise if you just pry it open, you will break the tabs. But I suppose it's not the end of the world. The top does not have them so it just opens like a suitcase once the bottom tabs are popped.

          You probably did that though, but the post was a bit unclear. I only mention this because I was told to just pry it open and I broke a tab in the process. You can easily see them if you look through the slits with a light.

          I have this same monitor and I am also replacing all the caps in the board, it seems pretty recommended, even though only the capXon caps appeared bulging in mine. Also, don't miss that brown cap at the bottom between the big cap and the rest, it's a capXon as well. It was not bulging on mine but I'm going to replace it anyways, as the rest are bad. But I almost missed it.

          I have selected all cap replacements on Digikey, but have yet to make the purchase until further confirmation that I found suitable caps. I am curious as to how it works out for you. What problem exactly is your lcd having? I wonder if it is doing the same thing as mine. A freind of mine has one too, hers just started doing what mind did. We bought them at the same time.

              Yes, I used the iPOD plastic tool for this and it worked out fine.

              Can you list the DigiKey numbers? I just soldered in the 3 new 220uF caps, but got the same behavior. Screen flashes on for just a fraction of a second, then goes black. I think I need to replace some more caps - but have trouble getting the right part numbers on DigiKey.

                "2 seconds to black" can be caused by

                a) bad caps
                b) bad inverter transformer
                c) bad ccfl or ccfl wiring
                d) bad sense circuitry

                  Thank you for all the information contained in the above posts.
                  However, I must be doing something wrong!
                  I have removed the front plastic panel of the screen.
                  I have removed all screws from the back of the plastic panel
                  The top and side of the screen and mother board are free and I'm able to look inside.
                  The bottom of the screen and mother board are still attached to the back panel and do not want to move.
                  I don't see any clips or screws holding it down.
                  How do I free the bottom of the screen from the plastic back panel?
