HP w1907 2 seconds to black

Got this from a co-worker today. Board appears to be the same layout, and model and revision numbers as the board in the first post in this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9864

2 seconds to black, with the LCD panel working. (Picture visible in bright light.)

Caps are different brands, but none are swollen, and ESR looks to at least be in the ballpark.

Checking with 2 known CCFLs has no change in behavior. Checking the two transformers by the CCFL sockets results in the same readings on both of them, EXCEPT for pins 7 and 8. On T502, I get 620Ω. On T501, I get 38000Ω!

Reflowed the solder on those pins for both transformers and the resistance is the same.

Tentative diagnosis, order replacement transformer, replace and test again.

I found this on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/SPW-068-TRANSFOR...-/150490319780

Price seems ok, but I'm not too happy about the 10-20 days shipping time.

I'm also going to reflow any suspicious looking solder connections before I put it back together.

Any suggestions, or does this seem like the right course of action?

Sounds like you did a great job diagnosing everything.

It's not that much of a difference: I don't think that would be the problem ..
