ViewSonic VP201b

    ViewSonic VP201b

    I have a View Sonic VP201b display I'm trying to fix and when I opened the case I found the main board had a brown crusty covering. It looked like someone pored chocolate milk on it and baked it on.
    Any idea what it is and how to remove it.

    Post clear focused pictures using the manage attachments. Please do not post pictures inline as they slow down the loading of pages.

    Try to get a photo that is 2000x2000 resolution or as close as possible.

        There's a few opinions on board cleaning....some based on fact, others on dogma. It always helps to have an idea of the substance to tailor the solvent/agent to that. If you think it was dairy based, then I have actually used warm water with liquid dish soap and a gentle old toothbrush. I have gone so far as to remove any electromechanical items (relays, switches etc.) that don't play well with water and soak the board in the tub. Thereafter, drying is critical and don't overheat the board if you use a hairdryer. One could argue that distilled/deionized water is better, but keep in mind that acids, bases and salts conduct electricity and the board itself will already have some contaminating substances on it from the spill. Lots of rinsing after the cleaning with distilled water may minimize this, then dry, dry, DRY!
