1029A Genelec speaker, transformer help please

    Hi all

Customer connected to UK mains whilst it had been set to 115V.

    Mains Toroid transformer blown.

Require help sourcing original, or a schematic for speaker so that I can work out an equivalent to use.

Only 3 wires at output, so I'm guessing 2 X 12V or something close to that.

Customer dropped in his working speaker, & now can confirm output is AC 24 X 2, with WHITE lead being the common.

Managed to match up a stock transformer.

    Now working on test.

      Hi Zen,

Did you get the speaker working, if so could you tell me which transformer you used please.

It seems like the transformer in one of my Genelec 1029a speakers has blown. I am now looking for a replacement transformer.

      Thanks in advance.

do toroids have a thermal fuse in them?
        i'v never unwrapped one.

          Yes, sometimes they do.
All depends if the manufacturer was ordered to do so for the customer / design of the device.
There could also be just a regular time-delay fuse in there too (on the primary winding.) In fact, that's more likely to be the case.
My experience so far with transformers with 220/230/240V primaries is that you just can't use fast-acting / quick blow fuses, as the primary startup current can be extremely high in some cases (depending on what voltage the AC supply is at that particular moment - i.e. if the AC is at the peak of its amplitude at that instant... i.e about 340V... then the di/dt will be extremely high for the transformer's primary winding if the transformer gets energized at that particular instant.)
