    Pioneer SC-LX81 - loudspeaker terminals

    Hello everyone,

I am currently working on a Pioneer SC-LX81 amplifier and I successfully ran a firmware upgrade fixing the network issues. I have found the file here.

The problem I am having comes from a defective 3-terminal loudspeaker connector whose previous owner destroyed the PCB connections. I don't know how this happened because I don't think the guy ever opened the received - never seen such a complicated architecture with numerous stacked boards and flat ribbons! -and the plastic is secured from the from panel.

After almost an hour for removing all the boards, I could finally access the amplifier assy and this is a 7-channel class-D amplifier driven by an ICE chip and a bootstrapped high-side driver also marked ICE. I removed the loudspeaker connecting terminal and it is well affected with most of its connection torn down (see attached pictures). The brand is Jalco and Pioneer lists it as AKE7138-A in the schematic diagram or AKE7138 in the bill of material. I've tried to ask for a spare part in a Pioneer repair station in France but the guy told me that Pioneer Europe no longer stored the part. I've tried searching the internet and found a few approaching parts on eBay but not this exact version. I can try to fix the connector by adding long wires and gluing it to the PCB but I would prefer to replace the terminal by a new one. If you gents have suggestions on where I could find this type of connector, I'll happy to read your comments. Thanks a lot in advance.

    Cheers, Christophe

    common problem with japanese amps.
    is the plastic o.k.?
if it is then i would connect it with copper wires!

Hi Stj, thank you, this is actually what I did as the plastic was ok and it worked. One of the banana screw thread was dead so I managed to secure it with a nut inside so the only connection means now is via a 4-mm banana plug but it seems to work now.

The new problem I've found is pretty weird and I don't know if it was there before I dismantled the whole thing (what a mess!): it works well when operated in any configuration of Dolby for a long time. Then, if I suddenly switch to Advanced surround, there is a kind of low-frequency oscillation appearing in the loudspeakers. If I push direct stream or simple stereo mode, then it disappears. It goes up and down with volume. When I return to Advanced surround, then it comes back again. It's only if I change the Dolby mode on the fly because it can operate for many hours while in Advanced surround (Rock style for instance) and if I toggle for another choice and return to Advance surround, then it oscillates again. Sometimes it is hung completely and despite changing sources, there is no sound at all. Turn the amp off, back again and sound is back ok until the next toggling event. This beast features Freescale DSPs and not the TI ones having lifetime problems.

The problem with with this amps is that you can't probe any signal without the jig cables. If you believe this is due to a bad contact I created when remounting the whole thing, I am willing to reopen it and secure all connectors again but I am doubtful this is it considering what I observe. If you have a clue... thanks a lot.

        Try a factory reset?

Pioneer amplifier A-205 Relay not clicking after a mistake i made
          by GraphicMan
          Hello guys
Because the unit is old (but only occasionally used) the loudness button causes some noise due to bad contact,
sprays did not work, so i decided to solder the pins that it connects on the pcb at the on (loudness on) position
i did that and it worked fine, i know from the bottom of my heart that the switch connects 2 pins and also d/c other 2 pins
on every position it have (6 pin switch), so i was curious what would happen if i clicked the switch off while the pins are soldered at on (so basiclly on and off at the same time), when i did so the sound is gone, nothing...

          faulty loudspeaker amplifier-no sound output
          by Cornboats
I've several amplifiers of different sizes which are faulty. I haven't fixed them because I haven't a clue. This is the smallest culprit. 240v in (UK) and 12v dc to the board. Small neon lights when power button is on. Different dc voltages across all of the capacitors. Where do I go from here?

          Hello,

I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

Spent some time downloading the Service...

Polk Audio RTi100 Plate Amplifier won't power on and intermittently honks and buzzes
          by MrCommunistGen
My childhood best friend was killed about 9 years ago. His parents are finally letting go of his things, and they offered me his Polk RTi100 tower speakers. The Polk RTi100 towers are one of a handful of designs from the early 2000s that is a full range 3-way tower with a built-in self-powered subwoofer. This is accomplished with a plate amp integrated into the speaker input panel.

I think they used them for a while, but they've been sitting for at least a few years now. After about 40 hours of driving to their house and back (both they and I have moved in the last 9 years) I got...

How to test Subwoofer Amplifier with only a multimeter
          by jinu_j
          Hi Folks

Need some advice on how to test a subwoofer amplifier if i have access to only a multimeter.

          Problem
I have a Boston Acoustics active Subwoofer (soundware S). Its rated output is 200W. But the output i am getting is very low i can barely hear/feel it even if put the gain at max. I replaced all the capacitors in the Subwoofer amplifier but still no change.

Is there anyway to test this without getting an oscilloscope/Function generator to see if the fault is with amplifier, driver or the source??

          Any advice would be appreciated...
