    Sony HCD-GZR5D

Hi guys, this hifi was given to me as it was sent to sony but returned back with the reason no parts available and in the service sheet stated the STK IC is faulty. Ah ok, so i thought it made my life easier so i ordered one online and replaced it, original IC. Still no sound

The technician didnt even check i guess and made random assumption that the IC is faulty

I plugged in the headset, it has very faded sound, like maybe 2% no matter you control the volume up or down, the sound remains the same even at zero volume. Thru the speakers, theres no sound at all. Ok so i tried test input signal from a phone straight to the input of the amp section, theres sound coming out of the speaker, but volume on the unit still unable to control anything as if dead. I had to control from the handphone the volume. So this confirms the amp section is working fine. Even the speaker relay clicks ok, of course if the speaker relay didnt click, there wont be any sound when i short the signals right :P

So where do i go from here? Can anyone help me please. Something seems messed up with the input signal control block.

I have attached a service manual with this thread if that may be useful to anyone.

    Re: Sony HCD-GZR5D

Problem solved. After tracing missing voltage on audio input IC on the main board, noticed 100UF 16V capacitor was completely shot and several capacitors around it has higher ESR, that caused the 2.2ohms smd resistor to blow out and disable 9V voltage supply to the audio input/output signal IC. Hope this helps anyone who might have same issue with lost of audio output.

Sony HCD-HX80R Amplifier Volume Control Problem
      by crackedprint
I have a strange fault on a Sony amplifier. The volume control varies the display from MIN, then 1 up to 30 and then MAX as expected. At MIN there is no sound. However, at 1 it is quite loud and increasing above 1 does not change the sound level.

I have tried a Cold Reset as per the service manual.

I have looked at the I2C clock and data to volume control chip IC501 (BD3499FV). Data is only sent to IC501 when the volume is set to MIN or 1. At any other setting no data is sent to IC501.

I have looked all the way through the service manual and tried many online...

Sansui Integrated Amplifier replacement volume control troubles
      by Coert van Dorsten
Hi all you clever electronmic gooroos!

I was wondering if you could help me with the below issues Im having on a Sansui Integrated amplifier. I bought this unit as a project to repair as Im playing around with basic electromics. The unit has a faulty volume control pot. The service maual refers to a 150K Logarithmic pot (A) tapered stereo. Im struggling to find this value. Seem to be a jump from 100K to 250K. Im now trying a 250K pot. It works but the problem is that as the volume is turned up from starting at Min the Left channel will come on first just slightly before the Right...

Sony KD-75XF9005 grey Picture but Sound. TCON or panel?
      by iglitare
      Hi,

i want to repair a Sony KD-75XF9005 TV that initially only showed a grey picture.
Backlight seems to work, Sound (Setup menu after reset) works.
If i dissconnect the left FFC cable from TCON to panel i have half a screen on the right. If left cable is connected always only the grey screen.
Interchanged the cables, its always only the right side that is working. Always grey if left side is connected.
With my small knowledge i would think at least the cables are good.

Can this happen because of a bad tcon board?
Or is it always a bad/shorted...

Sony SLV-E780 Power Supply Issue – Clicking Sound, Need Help Identifying Faulty Component
      by Akuanka
      Hi everyone,

I'm troubleshooting a power supply issue with a Sony SLV-E780 VCR. The device clicks repeatedly but doesn't power up completely. I've already replaced five capacitors, but the problem persists.

Here's a video link https://photos.app.goo.gl/3Xki6yvCLn67gLX78 showcasing the sound. Based on your experience, could this be due to a transformer, diode, or another component? Any guidance on what to test or replace next would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Onkyo TX-SR607 replacement volume control encoder
      by redwire
I had an Onkyo SR607 with a volume control encoder not working, turning the knob up the volume number would move around crazy and not work reliably.
Took it out and apart and no, it's not oxide or cleaning, lube required etc.- the metal is simply worn out. It's a 30mm part with metal bushing.

Volume control encoder Onkyo P/N 25065655W, Alps EC12E2425 is some oddball variant I could not find. I did the dig and tried replacement part Alps EC12E2420803 and it works/fits just like the original. Mouser 688-EC12E2420803 for $3.00
