    Technics ST81

3 months ago I found a mini system consists of ST81 Technics audio tuner+amplifier. The problem is that controls communication is done through special cables, in my case a 20-pin ribbon cable that I miss and so can not check if the devices operate.
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Technics-S...-/121209656017
I tried from the beginning to contact Panasonic, suppliers on AliExpress or even on eBay. Unfortunately, I did not receive a favorable response.
So I decided to consult the service manual and to dismantle the tuner for a complete visual inspection and all was OK.
I made 20 of about 20-25cm long thin cables and tried to connect them. That proved to be a nightmare, because not all the wires were connected, and that was difficult to detect.
    ****
Since the only way to ensure firm contact was to stick the wires on the PCB, I decided to do it today. So I lost 2 hours to prepare wires, solder them on the tuner PCB then used a glue gun to isolate with silicone the uninsulated ends.
Then I soldered wires carefully on the amplifier PCB checking their order and finally I connected the device to the AC power outlet carefully.
The good thing is that I managed to power on the device and after several minutes of trying the sound start on the radio.
Now I encounter two problems. The first is that the device works with 6ohm speakers, offering a power output of 2x45W DIN / 2x60W RMS, and I have 4ohm speakers. What risk is if runs below 50% of the power amplifier?
The second thing that worries me is the type of wires used to connect directly to the two PCBs, that some are single line, 0.5mm diameter, others are multicore, all around 0.5mm diameter - cooper core.
How matter thick of wires or if are single line/multicore?
Does it matter to the proper functioning of the system?
    Thanks

    Re: Technics ST81

Sorry because I forsaken the forum.
Since a month ago I solved the problem for now. I took 20 pin plugs and solder long multifilament wires, because the monofilament wires pulling away 7 traces from the board.
Mea culpa, I was warned by @stj that these seams should be done carefully, otherwise many wires can flies with traces...
That being said, the toy sounds perfect with a pair of SONY speakers, 2x60W at 6ohm (my luck).
I have to buy 4 bars with 10-pin and 20-wire plug mother/mother to rebuild like the initial setup.

At least you got it working. Good for you,

Wire twisting tool for small wires - ideas ?
        by Dannyx
Good day folks. Recently, I started doing more and more alarm system installs which involve dealing with a ton of small wires which are part of 4 to 12 core alarm cable. To make my installs as clean and neat as possible, I twist together the individual wires whenever possible to make braids like in the picture. It takes a lot of time and wears on my fingers really quickly, to the point where I actually developed a blister on my index finger from all the twisting. This got me thinking if there's a tool designed to braid small wires like this. I know there is something for twisting together solid...

correct way to connect bare speaker wires into spring clip terminals?
        by ChaosLegionnaire
i recently bought a logitech z607 surround system. however, its giving me grief. when i first connected it, it only had sound coming from the front right speaker. after a great deal of fiddling and reseating the speaker wires into the spring clip terminals, i finally had sound coming from all 5 satellite speakers.

however, the sound still gets cut off intermittently if i move the speakers, subwoofer or move/touch the speaker wires on the back of the subwoofer. so i wanna ask what is the right way to connect bare speaker wires into spring clip terminals?

        i googled...

        Headphone wires.... confused!
        by budwich
I picked up a "beat up" set of sennheiser headphones (hd201). The phono plug end seemed to have an issue such that most of the time only one ear would work but by compressing / bending the jacket of the phono plug, I could cause the other ear to work. Must be a phono jack (3 pin) problem. So I cut it off and have solder based replacement. BUT... the wiring seems "mysterious" to me. I can't see how this can work or even ever worked. Attached is a picture of the wires (less the phono plug). One sheath has what I believe is two enameled wires while the other has basically...

        Technics SL-1200MK2 internal grounding
        by MartinConnolly
I have recently bought a pair of 1988 Technics SL-1200 Mk2 DJ turntables. All original components inside and all still work!
But, they have been 'internally grounded' which is a common mod that some DJs do which removes the ground wire and just connects the turntable chassis to one of the sheilds on the RCA phono cables.

Now, Technics say this shouldn't be done because the outputs from a phono cartridge are balanced positives and negatives, not unbalanced signal plus ground.

So, I plan to remove this mod.

However, looking at the back of my chosen...

Technics SL-PG420A.CDM4/19 whining sound with CD-R
        by Xenon-Codex
It works but a loud whine appears with CD-R discs, but only in the middle of the disc, beginning and the end are silent. Silver cd's do not whine.
It's still present with a different clamp. The player is Technics SL-PG420A. Blue capacitor in the laser circuit is replaced already.
