    Reasons for sound cutting in/out

I have an audio receiver with sound that sometimes cuts in/out when volume is turned up. Sometimes it works fine then sounds will cut out. How common is it for capacitors to cause this. The unit I am working on is 30 years old.

not common. more common is dirty switches and pots and bad solder. If it cuts out when volume is down cuts in when volume is increased, bad relay.

All the above advice is good. Just another thought.

What kind of wire is used to connect the board to the outputs? Is it screened signal cable?.. A few years back I encountered a Sharp amp which used thin screened cables (coax) to the speaker terminals on the back, the same stuff they used for the input wiring !! It was shorting internally, but only intermittently. Increasing the volume would clear it for a short time and then the problem would return.
Have a look and if this amp is using screened signal cables where power cable would be more suitable deal with appropriately.

I just repaired an amp I got used that had an intermittent left channel. I turned out to be a cracked circuit board––the crack went right through a trace in the signal path. The crack was hard to see at first.

Samsung Soundbar Q900T Cuts Off if Volume above 30
            by Storyteller12
I have this soundbar and when I turn it on it works until I turn the volume above 30.
Then the display show “PROT” protection and shuts off.

I can turn it right back on and it works until volume hits 30 again.

There is a little static on the surround speakers so I unplugged them but still have same problem. I tried unplugging all speakers also and when volume goes above 30 it shuts off.

I can turn the volume above 30 if nothing is playing but as soon as I play something it shuts off.

It will play fine for hours with volume...

Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB (Chassis SR) TV Repair Help - Distorted Subwoofer Sound and overall weird sound waveforms
            by LEECH666
            Good day ladies and gentleman!

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.

This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).

I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but...

Loewe opta R125 distorted sound at high volume
            by jorpec
            Hi
I'm restoring this vintage radio, that had a very weak sound output, after replacing the electrolytic capacitors the sound volume improved but when the volume reach the middle of the knob starts to distort, its like the speaker overdrive and saturates, but only at lower frequencies even with the tone knob at minimum on bass frequencies. i have tried with other speakers but is the same.
Any idea what causes this ?
            Below the schematic

            Thanks...

Vizio D65x-G4 Volume changes on its own
            by karthur
On this Vizio D65x, the volume will change on its own. I don't mean like during commercials where the volume will increase. I mean its like the (+) volume button on the remote is pressed and the actual volume dialog is displayed on the screen going up. It will do this, then the volume may start going down. It might go all the way to "0"or it might stop at a different number, then start going back up. The whole time its doing this, the volume dialog is shown on the screen.

It wont do it until it has been "ON" for 20 or 30 minutes, so it does seem to be heat related....

Marian Trace Alpha sound card repair help
            by Christos Tsiligiannis
            Hello to the forum.

My name is Christos, I am new to the forum here and i am posting from Greece.

So i have this old German sound card from Marian, called Trace Alpha. To be exact i have 2 of them and i use them professionally for my small FM radio station here. The first one works like a charm, but the second one does not work at all.

To be more specific in the same exact pc with windows 7 (i even tried 32bit) the one works while the other doesn't.

So i tried asking for a schematic from the company and they would not give me one. Instead they...
