As the bloke that started all this MANY years ago, I'm so glad to learn that people are having success! BTW, I had cause to talk to Yamaha Australia about another keyboard I recently (successfully) repaired, and told the tech about what we'd achieved with getting old Clavinovas going . I told him we'd extracted the code and it was now out there in the public domain. He didn't seem the least concerned. But you may recall, Yamaha refused to give or sell me the code; they wanted ~$300 for the three ROMS.

Well it's taken me a while to get back to this project but I can confirm after finally programming a new set of the 3 eproms with the code provided here I have a working unit again.
Many thanks to all those who have contributed all this vital information.
I was able to get a read from only one of the three originals which only had a partial match to the correct code so yeah they were stuffed.

can you share the whole circuit with me. I tried removing ic12 from CVP30 and installing it and it works. But I will have to uncommentLeave a comment:

Can you share the changelog with me?
This chip prone to failing over time. It has 4 outputs that drive DA conversion as I remember. Times one or two or more output not working in this chip. I have done a work around for this by using some shift registers earlier. This chip have clock input from cpu and you have to alternatively drive 4 output in sequence. I'm migrated and left behind lot of my old docs, otherwise I could share full circuit. Trace inputs and outputs of the chip and you will see how it works. Finding datasheet of the old chip helps to device a plan. As I remember, 2 or 3 8bit shift registers will be help with even just one output from the faulty chip. You can input it to shift registers and take appropriate outputs from it at after right number of but shifts.Leave a comment:

well if you found a blank it wouldnt help,
you either need a yamaha spare or one that was removed from a scrap keyboard.
did you contact yamaha-haha yet?

OK, well I took the plunge and ordered a programmer which has arrived. Just waiting for the chips from overseas to turn up and we'll see how we go.Leave a comment:

Thanks so much for the feedback guys. I don't know who to really ask but I'd happily pay for the supply of the programmed roms.
Failing that I guess I'll look into a good source of the chips and that programmer kit.
I've tinkered with electronics all my life but I can't see me having a use for it after doing this favour for the owner.Leave a comment:

Re: Yamaha Electric Piano CLP550 no keyboard output
Hi all, this has been a great combined and commited effort to sort these units out. I, too have been asked to repair one and so far it appears to be steering towards the same issue. My question is, can anyone please steer me to a reliable supplier of the correct eeprom burner and hopefully an economical one. So far ebay isn't much help. This will be a one-off.
For your interest, I told the keyboard tech at Yamaha Melbourne that we'd recovered the code and it was now floating around on the internet. He's a good bloke, but he didn't seem at all concerned about their intellectual property leaking out.Leave a comment:

by dkneyleIf you have a Yamaha CLP550 which has seemingly stopped working for no reason, we have the solution for you after many good people worked together to recover the ROM code that becomes corrupted or lost after many years of service.
This thread tells the story of the journey: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=36535
If you want the good ROM code for the three memory ROMs that generate the piano tones, then go to Post #114. Tested and good ROM code.
The technology of the original ROM chips was at the very edge of the silicon density for the...-

I have pulled the output board. Output txsistors are ok (only 2 main output). Everything measures the same on each side. Customer did not bring in speakers so I cannot go too deep. I did notice a greenish tint on the tip of the solder joints that connect to the COPPER output connectors. All 6 have a greenish tint at the tip - each side has 3 pins each. Anyone else have copper speaker output pins that corrode at the place on the PCB where they are soldered? I will try to add a photo. Thanks.-

by FrancescoVGood morning everyone,
I'm trying to repair an onkyo ht-r390 that has no sound output, despite the volume being at maximum, the rest seems to work; the video output signal (coming from an hdmi input) is present, but the audio is absent. Similar situation if I send an audio signal from any input I have no output.
The firmware reported is the following:
M:1.00/11107BLP
D:?.??/????????
O:1.00/11107AL
The DSP firmware given the question marks seems corrupt.
On the BCHDM-0678 - 25140678 - QPWBCHDM0678A0 board the chip that usually seems...-

by ksotoszxHi all, this is my first post on this forum, i will need the help of someone who knows in order to repair the old Electric Keyboard Piano that was given to me.
It is a gold star brand, model gek s350. It lights up normally, everything seems to work but it has no sound. Neither from the keys nor from the ready melodies.
-I haven't forgotten a plug in the headphones.
-The capacitor that I touch with my finger (in the picture) has no resistance, as I measured with the multimeter, but I don't know if that's the reason.
Before i attempt something on my own and possibly destroy...-

by laidmanYamaha PSR EW400 piano intermittently loses sound and shuts down.
Youtube people recommend verifying that the DC jack's solder connections aren't broken, and the replacement of a couple of capacitors in the vicinity of the DC jack. While these solutions might work, I'd feel a lot more secure if I had a schematic to help me check the status of the myriad components.
Schematic and suggestions are welcome. - Loading...
