Need Service Data Kenwood KAC-729S Car Amp

    Hi all,
A client gave me this thing to fix.

First hint of a problem was that the power input tab was ripped out and a wire was soldered in it's place.

What the prior guy managed to do was crack the circuit board near the DC input.

Pulled all the crap off. Fixed the crack and added my own wire in.

Now for the real problem, the DC to DC won't start.

Going to poke around for a bit then put it aside to wait.

So if anybody has a copy of the service book and or schematic that can be e mailed I would be real pleased. Let me know if costs are involved.

Got a message into Kenwood east coast parts, don't expect to hear back until Monday at the soonest. Would rather not buy a $30 buck book unless I have to.

    Thanks in advance.

My kenwood won't start up if the ground screw is not connected to bat negative, I got it as faulty for $10.

        Hi Jack,

Is it just the photo or do the main smoothing caps look like their tops are bulging?

          M,
That caused me a moments pause as well.

The plastic seems to have domed over the flat tops of the caps.
The labels are heat shrink of some kind so when the heat shrink compressed the caps popped outward, making that dome look.

The ESR meter said less than .5 ohm so I did not mess with them.

          J,
Best kind, the ones you don't have to think too much about.
          Enjoy the toy.

          All,
Left it running since before lunch (1300 eastern) , it's still cranking now, not a full power. (1515 eastern)

Have a nicely warmed heat sink under the left elbow.
Was drawing about 2 amps, just adjusted the input so that the amp is drawing about 5 amps.

When I had it cranking at ten amps (figure about 150 watts) my bench PSU was not keeping up with the heat load and shutting off. Was not expecting that.

          Let's see what happens.

          Be well all.
