Just fixed a Sony STR-DB925 for a friend.

Just thought i would share the symptom and fix in case someone has a similar problem.

Friend calls me and says his amp wont work, no lights or anything.

I open her up and there was 1 bulged cap on the voltage regulator board so i replaced that, still would not switch on.

I then reflowed all the solder joints on the regulator board, fitted it all back together and boom,, working again

Blue cap is the one i put in.

    Sorry for pic quality RC.

Is that a Teapo in a Sony amp? Ugh.

    Nice fix though.

I just used what i had lol.

I was originally a Rubycon, but it was bulged so i nicked that one out of a atx psu i had lying about.

      And thanks.

Can we see the bulged Rubycon?

I have the sony STR-DB830 which is very similar to his 925, think i better check my caps too lol.

Just looked through the vents on mine and it has a different layout to his.

Will open it up tomoz because there is a million wires plugged into it.

Ok, just messaged me now and told me he binned it.

Is it unusual for a ruby to bulge?

His amp is 14 years old. Made in 1998.

Ok, it may not of been rubycon, Just opened mine up (STR-830) and it has 2 Large Nichicon Gold Tune caps on the psu and all the other boards are full of Gold coloured Nichicons and 1, yes 1 Jamicon!

His caps were all black ones.

So it must of been a Nichicon that bulged? As his amp is only a year older than mine.
