Philips 52" LCDTV 5000 series question

Hello,

I'm new to the forums I have been fixing my own Monitors and Tv's for quite some time now. While i'm not a pro I do have great interest in fixing my own stuff.

I do not like Sony Tv's or Polaroid I refuse to buy any of these products.

Anyhow I did some researching before purchasing the Philips 52" LCDTV Model# 52pfl5704d/f7
From my understanding certain manufacturers produce all Plasma panels and certain manufacturers produce LCD panels for all TV's.
From what I read was Philips was one of the LCD manufacturers so I stayed far away from Philips plasmas.

I decided against plasma from the get go anyhow because of burn in issues I have children and they play video games.
If I were to go plasma it would have been Panasonic.
Although all the reviews I have read regarding the TV I purchased were positive my main concern is lifespan.
Does anyone have any personal experience with this model?? If so i'd appreciate some feed back.
I really like the tv it gets a nice picture and the black levels are pretty good for the price I paid for this TV.
Also own a Sanyo LCD this model has been a solid performer and is a LCD 26" HDTV I stayed far away from Sanyo because the one in my room gets burn in very easliy I can't complain I got for free from replacing some parts and has been working without issue for almost 2 years.

Thanks for any feed back regarding the Philips TV hoping I made the right choice.

I have a couple of questions about this. First, why are you posting the question here? While there are a large number of people here who work on LCD equipment, it's unlikely many have purchased that specific model TV.

I would think a forum such as the AVS forum would bet more likely to get responses from someone who has purchased (or at least considered) that TV. Of course, a lot of responses would be in the order of
"I wouldn't touch a Philips TV if my life depended on it."
"Why didn't you buy a Sony, they are great?"
"You should have bought a Toshiba."
As well as the ever popular "Philips are great, but you should have gotten a smaller one." In other words, not very helpful responses.

Even more interesting, why did you wait until AFTER you purchased it? What are you going to do if someone says "I bought that same TV, and it's been in the shop three times"? Are you going back to the dealer trying to return it "Because some guy on the internet said he had a problem with one."?

For what it's worth, I have a great deal of respect for Philips products. The service manuals are well written and give a lot of information. Of course, I also own a Philips plasma set my wife swears by (I bought it 'dead' and fixed it for $5 in caps). Does that make you feel better about your purchase?

On the other hand, LG Electronics service manuals are horrible. They are poorly done translations from Korean to English with poor illustrations and little troubleshooting assistance? I own one of their plasma sets, and I'm reasonably happy with it. How does that make you feel?

Oh, comparing a Sony to a Polaroid is a lot like comparing a Mercedes to a Yugo.

The fact is, you can ask any number of people for their experience with a given brand or model, and the responses won't reflect what will happen with your TV. I have a three or four year old Mitsubishi DLP set. Since I have owned it, I have put less than $25 into repairs on it (I got lucky on a light engine problem that could have cost $$$$$), and a design problem was handled at no cost after the warranty expired. (On the other hand, the lamp is showing signs of failing, so I will be spending over $100 for that soon.) Others have had the same model, and and had it completely rebuilt, sometimes with it out of service for several months.

Enjoy your TV. Maybe you will be one of the happy ones.

Ditto, Philips has always been good quality. I actually worked for a Philips repair centre back in the late 70s. I was a kid thinking about a career in electronics repair. I was low man on the totem pole, so I got to start by fixing small appliances, and shavers, but I did sneak in the odd TV and stereo. Other than one tube chassis (K7 maybe?) that had notorious solder problems on a flexible circuit board, they were very well built.

Wow! Was a question regarding any issues with caps in general this is the reason I posted here and not AVS. Atleast this was the intent of the post should of been more detailed.
I did my homework on the Philips as posted and got good reviews my question was regarding electronics maybe here people have dealt with these in that manner.
I never compared Sony to Polaroid I just stated I did not like those brands.
Had no intention of returning the TV Just wanted to see if anyone with the specific model I had maybe had some cap issues they could talk about.

Tell that to the 17" piece of junk CRT computer screen I opened up not too long ago that was full of "lelon" or some other caps.

The thing I like about their LCDs (computers - I don't know about TVs) is that they have a four year warranty where everyone else gives you two.

But Philips is like everyone else. Some of their stuff is ok, and some of their stuff is garbage. They're no Panasonic. The same applies for Toshiba. Toshiba generally speaking makes good stuff, but they also have some garbage. I've never seen a shoddy Panasonic product.

Polaroid was only a name someone bought rights to. Good luck finding out whatever/whomever actually manufactured those POS's.
