LG 37" LCD TV (2005) Model - Switching On and Off

I seriously do not believe my bad luck.

I think I am becoming known as the forum's no.1 electronics breaker not fixer!

I settled done to watch the England v Japan Women's World Cup last night and just as they were about to kick off - NO SIGNAL!

I switched off then on again. Corrected it then it happened again so I retuned.

Cannot remember if it was during the tuning but I tried to cancel it by switching off and it wouldn't switch off either with remote control or main power button.

I think I may then have switched it off at the mains socket.

When I finally got it working again, it was fine until about 37 minutes in and the TV just switched off so I missed the first England goal!

I fiddled around a bit more and suddenly it started switching on then immediately off then on and off.

I have searched the net and this seems to be a common problem with some late LG Smart TV. Obviously this is not a smart tv because of its age and because of its age, I want to keep it working.

Could this be a capacitor problem? It is the LG 37LP1D model.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
    by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
    by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock
    by sam_sam_sam
I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

    After all of...

DVR camera recorder switching power supply capacitor failure really
    by sam_sam_sam
These cheap non brand capacitors at it again

Last night we had a power outage [ long drawn out trying three to come back up before going out completely ] and when I went to turn the DVR camera recorder back today no go 3 bad capacitors ( one capacitor no ESR reading on DVR board the other 3 capacitor on the power supply board over 40 ohm this is not a misprint ) on the external switching power supply and one capacitor on the DVR camera recorder board where the power supply that goes to the hard drive disk is

Well at least I have the cameras back on line I to try the...

How does this switching PS work ?
    by michel74
    Hi everyone,

Yes ! How does this switching PS works ? :-)
I understand (not in deep, of course) the switching PS principle; typically, I'd expect to get a VCC just to "feed up" the STR or the Switching regulator, but I cannot figure how this VCC is "created" (on a TV switching PSU, I often see some cascaded resistors, but here, I believe that one of the transformer input should make the permanent VCC, but I cannot figure where )
Thanks for your help. I already wrote some explanation of what I was having and did some measurements here ...
