    What is this please?

    Hi all

I'm an amateur cap replacer and need some help to identify a capacitor on a laptop of mine.

It's next to the wireless mini pci card and is chirping and buzzing etc. I have another laptop of the same model and it doesn't make a sound on the other one. The wireless on the laptop has stopped working recently so it all points to this as the cause. I Haven't had much experience of surface mount capacitors only the easy radial ones not too sure what the rating of it is and have searched net quite thoroughly and can't find one with similar numbers so i'm assuming I am identifying it wrongly.

See attached image for the one in question. Any advice of what I can replace it with is much appreciated.

    Many Thanks

    Re: What is this please?

Perhaps if you stated the make and model of the laptop and the name of the motherboard
some of the laptop aces will find a schematic.
Looks to me as if it could be 1uf 10v but that is only a guess are there any similar caps with same type of marking but with different values.
You could also measure the voltage across the cap?

Better still measure it on the working board?

      Its a HP Pavilion G6-1325ea

Didn't think to measure across my working laptop . My working one is a slightly different model being a quad core rather than a dual core so not sure if it will be a different rating? Will strip my other one and investigate further I guess (lucky it's out of warranty). I was guessing 10V but wondered why it has 100 written instead of 10 if that was the case didn't want to just guess thought I would seek some people with somewhat more knowledge than me!

Ok just measured it on the working laptop. It has the same markings on the cap as the other one (pictured in first post). It's measuring as 12V!? is this right if it's to be a 10v cap?

          Re: What is this please?

No - it would very likely go "pop" perhaps its overkill and 100v - wait and see if
          any laptop chaps chime in.

            Re: What is this please?

I've tested all the capacitors in the suspect area and all are reading a voltage ok, guessing it could be something else. Will head over to the laptop section and post for any ideas in there. Thanks for your input
