Garmin Nuvi 200 - easy fix

I bought a Garmin Nuvi on eBay for £9.50, including shipping.

Fault description: On battery, doesn't work. On USB power, it turns on and then off, rapidly, displays Garmin logo but this flashes on and off.

I thought it might be easy to fix.

So I plugged it in to my laptop via. USB to power it up. WTH? It works perfectly! Powered up, no problems, found satellites, touchscreen worked... could not fault it. I charged the battery up using USB and it works fine on battery too.

Has a full UK map (2008), plus most of Western Europe and parts of Russia & N. Africa, major roads only. European road trip planned soon! This will help .

    My theory --

Original charger broke so user bought one of these off fleabay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T88ej...7&feature=plcp

Charger can put out 5V at 100mA, so maybe enough to get it to fire up, but voltage rapidly collapses, causing it to power cycle. It won't charge using that varying voltage, so with a flat battery it won't start up.

    Another victim of crap PSUs.

Re: Garmin Nuvi 200 - easy fix

The original charger was a switching type and made to work with the l/ion battery.

These are a switching type (no transformer) and are controlled by the battery.

The batteries in these and other devices (tablets) have the charge circuit built into the battery pack (control charge limit and cycle, etc).

The device is looking for the correct charger and when a transformer type is plugged into it there will be issues with charging and the circuit protection kicks in and stops the charging process. (battery will be dead)

Also the car charger may have a had a blown fuse. (very common)

The ISL88739 & ISL88739AHRZ are a highly versatile combo battery charger
configurable for operating as either a Hybrid Power Boost (HPB)
charger or a Narrow VDC (NVDC) charger, supporting 2-, 3-, or
4-cell batteries. Both configurations allow the battery to work with
the adapter together to supply the system load when it exceeds
the adapter capability, referred to as system Turbo mode. HPB
charger configuration reverse-boosts battery energy to the system
bus to help the adapter provide the system power in Turbo mode.
      NVDC charger configuration...

Highly Integrated Narrow VDC Battery Charger for Notebook Computers

The ISL6257HRZ ISL6257HRZ-T is a highly integrated battery charger controller
for Li-Ion/Li-Ion polymer batteries. ISL6257 is designed for
Narrow VDC applications where the system power source is
either the battery pack or the regulated output of the charger.
This makes the max voltage to the system equal to the max
battery voltage instead of the max adapter voltage. Operating
at lower system voltage can improve...

how to prevent a connected charger from draining battery when not charging?
      by flat-earther
I have an RC radio handset(Taranis QX7) which doesn't have internal battery charger which means I had to remove the battery every time I needed to charge it.
So to improve it, I added a 15W USB-C charger board(link) inside and soldered it to the same connector on the PCB where the battery plugs into, great, now I can simply charge it with a USB-C cable.

but the problem I found is that after the radio sat for two weeks without being used the 2S 18650 battery that I'm using was at 4.2V!
So the battery is backfeeding the charger and being drained.

      How can I prevent...

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
      by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Bauer tool battery pack charging with a HERCULES charger modification
      by sam_sam_sam
The Bauer power tool battery charger just has to many issues with the charger over heating because I several HERCULES Hercules battery chargers that are 3 amp charge and because they have gone on quite a few times over the years before they came out with the fan cooling battery charger I going to modify one so I can charge Bauer battery packs faster than the crape battery charger that they have

Here is how this modification is going to be done I taking a 1.5 amp hour battery enclosure and gutting it removing the battery cells and replacing some Ryobi 1.5 amp hour battery pack that...
