    BGA replacement success rate

I am new in replacing bga chips and i have to admit that i still have trouble in balling, reballing chips... it is not 20 minute job for me...its more like one hour at this time and when i say balling and trouble i generally mean on PCH chips that from my expirience are real tough, because they are small and balls are very close, so they run...and so on.
Right now my succes rate is about 30%. It is hard to tell is it because i order from china already dead chips or they die in the process of soldering...so lately i have been using bga chips from donor motherboards that i buy from people who sell dead laptops. And yes my succes rate is increased.

What i wont to know from you (expirienced long time members)....does it get any better? what is your success rate?
Do you order chips from China or use dead laptops from the local markets?
And in the end why some bga chip die in process? Is it because of the excessive heat, or heat expose for the long period or just mechanical stress from the process?
    thank you!

    Re: BGA replacement success rate

I was under the impression that many BGA chips fail because of the lead free solder and flexing from heat/cool cycles. Are you sure you need to be replacing these chips and not just reballing and resoldering, maybe with proper Pb solder?

Best place to source RAM chips? 8GB 820-00850 boards to 16GB or 32GB
      by ugamazing
I'm looking to upgrade several 8GB 820-00850 boards to 16GB or 32GB for personal use. I am curious what the best practice and process is for sourcing new replacement chips, and what vendor(s) you guys prefer? Another question is, how do I find compatible chips and their corresponding part/model numbers? For example, in the 820-00850 schematic, the DDR chip U2600 model listed (EDFB232A1MA) corresponds to 1x32GB chip. Of course, I would need 4x8GB chips to replace the 4x2GB chips currently on the board. How do I find compatible 8GB chips? Is it as simple as searching "BGA178 8GB 2133"...

WSON8 NEW Bios Chips READ, ERROR, ETC.
      by feherhollo
      Hi,
I asking for help on some new WSON8 256MB chips. Please share your experience. I faced error on some new chips on read, erase, write with different programmers. These new chips are not exist in any programmers database. (GD25B256D, XM25RH256, W25Q256JV so on.)
      I'm using RT809F V.5.0, EZP2023 Pro, CH341A Green

For the exact experience with GD25B256DYIG is RT809F erase the chip under 33sec. This kind of 256MB chip normal erase time is 70-120sec so I think not all the partitions are erased. If I do blank check or reread the buffer says FFFFFF but when I write the correct...

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
      by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Macbook Air M2 A2681 Kernel panics after screen replacement
      by reformatt
Just had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".

It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...
