Are these tools (tool sets, vacuum pumps, screwdrivers, scissors, clamps...) of good quality in prosumer class (BestBuy) or half-profi equipement? What are opinions on Pros'Kit from TW?

Re: Pro'sKIt tools?!
I like pro'skit, they are not the best, but for the price I was actually shocked at how nice they were the first time I ordered one of the tool kits. I have since ordered a few of the tool kits and have been very happy with them. -
Re: Pro'sKIt tools?!

Re: Pro'sKIt tools?!
i would say that with them you get a bit more than you pay for.
i got some things that were rather cheap, but they lasted/last pretty long...
pliers i still use, and cutters were destroyed mostly by kids using them to cut too thick/hard things...
bought in 1994. if i remember correctly....Comment

Re: Pro'sKIt tools?!
Stay away from Ratshacks (oh I'm sorry it's The Shack now LMAO). Kronus line of cutters sure they're fine for cutting electronic component leads.
I tried to cut thin gauge solid copper wire with them and the cutting surface knicked.
They should be made with hardened steel but I guess thats why they're so cheap. I guess if I forked 211 bucks for a Hakko FX-951 station I should fork 20 bucks or more for some decent nippers.
I can recommend Technik tweezers though for SMD work I ordered them online from Aven Tools and they're great (I ordered the straight ones and the 90 degree bent tip ones). They've got nice hand sharpened tips and they're very well machined from stainless steel made in Pakistan.
I'd say Pro'sKit tools probably are in the same league with Kronus disposable tools (and Best Buy's Dynex line of Chinese Crap electronics) if used lightly they will last but don't stress them or they'll break.Last edited by Krankshaft; 08-12-2009, 07:06 PM.Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.Comment

by tony359HI all,
I am working on some boards where all 100+ SMD caps have to be replaced (yes, they actually went bad!). I found a workflow to remove them comfortably (two irons, pre-heater and extra hot air for larger ones on ground planes).
When it comes to soldering them back, I add solder to one pad and then I use a plastic tweezer to keep them in the right place while I solder that leg.
The tweezer works - but I was wondering if there is a more "dedicated" tool or whether someone has a better idea. If it was for a bunch of caps then who cares. But because... -
by HexramHey guys,
I am new to the electronics repair game & have stumbled into some tools to get my workshop (garage) started.
I managed to get my hands on a low budget multi-meter, soldering iron, de-soldering gun, oscilloscope and a variable voltage/amperage DC power supply.
With this being a new hobby i am thinking of investing in some tools to make it a little easier.
When i get paid next i was thinking of buying a Peak Atlas ESR 70 gold.
I am after suggestions on what order to buy things because i don't have the money... - Loading...
