Whatever the hot air station you also want to provide some bottom heat to the board. I use my bga rework station but bottom heaters are available separately. This will reduce the chance of thermal shock. You don't want the outer parts of the board at room temperature whilst the GPU is 220ish degrees centrigarade.

For BGA rework I would suggest something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SALE-T862-...3D121345397153

      Or this

To small preheater, top heater is a bulb, low power.
        Waste of money.

Yo don't reflow BGA Chips, you replace them!
For 'Reflow' you don't need good equipment, maybe even a hair dryer is enough. And there is only ONE reason to do that: Data Recovery! You do that to recover data from a machine you can't access otherwise.

Louis is refering to the Nvidia chips that are known to be faulty.
There are plenty of chips that don't fail, in TVs, consoles and laptops and more. They can all benefit from a reflow. I'm pretty sure a hairdryer is not going to be able to heat chips to 220c. If a reflow fails then it's BGA replacement time.

Good luck with a hair dryer trying to get lead free solder to melt.
Really wonder how long those hair dryer "reflows" really last?
Like diff just mentioned, if the chip itself is bad, better replace it.
But even those nVidia chips can work for years again after a reflow or reball, and I do speak of experience with devices working over 4 year again after a reflow.
              Not bad I guess?
Ofcourse, I talk about a REAL REFLOW using a bga rework station and a controlled process.
And yes, I also reball or replace them if necessary, not only reflow.

                Seamark ZM-R6200 Rework station
                by shahnld
                Good day Experts.

I have recently aquired a rework station SEAMARK ZM-R6800,. Is there anyone using this or some other similar station and give me some info about profile temp curve etc for removing leadfree soldered gpu chip..? just 1 profile will be enough to get started.

                Kind regards

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
                by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

                Help with IR6500 rework station
                by petemanuk
                Hi,

I been playing with a recently acquired IR6500 rework station and watching lots of YouTube tutorials to see how to use it with not much success. I’ve only recently joined badcaps but going through the forums there is a lot of knowledge here, so though it best is if I ask my question here.

                1. Firstly is the IR6500 any good for BGA rework or should I be spending my money on a better one.

                2. The instruction manual is pretty useless on explaining how to set the PID loops (no information at all!!) both top and bottom heater for th Kp, Ki and Kd...
