I was using my power supply (QW-MS605D) for some electrolysis when the connection shorted out after I did an adjustment and the PS went dead. I opened the case and can't see anything like a blown cap or resistor, but the back end near the power plug smells like burned stuff. Every time I swap the fuse (250V F5AL) it pops the fuse the instant I turn it on so the smell could be lingering from the last fuse. There's an older thread on here from where someone else burned theirs's out but they had obvious issues, I can't really see anything that looks burned out on mine which makes this a bit annoying. The board layout is here too from that other thread but I don't think I'd be able to figure from that likely sources of the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Diodes can be measured as ok with DMM but in reality they maybe not. I just repaired an ATX PSU a few days ago that had a Zener diode failure. It failed to clamp the dropped high DC voltage and gave me a random low voltage below the minimum voltage to start the PFC+PWM IC, but the diode itself is measured ok with DMM. Still is in fact. 0.7V voltage drop and OL the other way around. But it simply doesn't work. After I replaced it with a new Zener diode from my stash, the PSU is working again.
To stop the fuse from keep blowing up, use a dim bulb in series with the mains.
Like harp said, you should check the bridge rectifier and the main switching transistor/MOSFET.
99% of the time when they are shorted, they will keep blowing the fuse.Last edited by прямо; 01-31-2025, 05:27 AM.Comment

by corrizeHello, I disassembled this dead camera, and found this WTF… Two fuses soldered one above the other !
I was pretty sure nobody touched it before, but that can't be from factory. There is flux, and capacitor is probably missing.
The other weird thing : the fuses are « G » fuse : (0.75A – 8V), seems very low. The original fuse should be « O » : (32V 2,5A).
There is « O » mark beside. All fuses have the same mark letter on main board. So, I can deduce it's a « O » fuse.
And this correspond to the issus I saw : when I plug the battery, I measure the voltage dropping... -

This person's fault was exactly the same as mine, even down to the power strip and with the muffled popping sound.
I suspect that my problem started with an old power strip, of which a computer and a 2000W heater were plugged into...
I noticed melting and heat where the heater was plugged in, so i plugged the heater directly into a double wall socket, but still noticed the muffled pop sound when i turned on the computer, and... -

I've checked every diode/mosfet/transistor I can see and nothing appears to be short to cause the fuse to go. The DC output of the bridge rectifier is not short either. I've seen online that some of these models are known for having their PFC mosfet or other mosfets shorting and blowing the fuse but i'm not seeing that here. If anyone aware of these models having any issues to cause this? I'm reluctant to just replace the...

I'm inexperienced with electronics repairs, I've done a little bit of soldering caps and whatnot, but i have a blown fuse on this mimaki printer I got which I have bought a replacement for.
How do I remove this type of fuse (see picture)...it kinda looks like it would pull out of that bracket but it didn't come at first pull and I didn't want to brute force it incase it's soldered on there like most of the rest of the components.
Anybody know how to remove this type of fuse?

by BabbarI found a project in the electronics trash yesterday. A nice Argon SA1 audio amp with some electrical issue. Took it apart and saw that the 4A250V fuse was blown so started lifting components to find the short. Eventually got to two MOSFETs (model FTA14N50C) that are shorted and when i took them out the short was gone.
Now i didn't have any replacements of the same model of course but i found a couple with pretty similar spec i thought (K10A60D & K12A50D) and put them in. Also replaced the blown fuse with a 3.5A250V one. Checked another time for short circuit and plugged it in.... - Loading...
