Re: Help Tektronix 466 repair advice

    Hey Everyone,

Post was slow, i finished my HV probe it worked perfectly.
I did a test before i took the measurements on a lower voltage to ensure the
    divider worked and it did!.

Sure enough on reduced scan i am getting my near normal operating voltages and on
normal i am getting well below.

    -----------------Expected-------------------------------------
    TP1501 -3010 Reduced Scan

    TP1501 -1470 Full scan

    ------------------RESULT-------------------------------------
    TP1501 -1702v Reduced Scan

    TP1501 -369v Full scan

    Q1472 Base = Reduced Scan 0.520
    Q1472 Base = Full SCAN 0.460

    Q1492 Base = -7.92 Reduced Scan
    Q1492 Base = -7.92 Full scan

    Q1496 Base = 18.38v Reduced Scan
    Q1496 Base = 18.38v Full scan

Re: Help Tektronix 466 repair advice

    Thanks all,

Its good to know i am not wasting my time, everything in life i learn thus far has been from the ground up and i have always came out better for it.

Once i have the unit working i was going to buy a signal generator to recal it myself.

Iv joined the Tek group just need some better equipment i am waiting on some resistors in the mail to build my HV probe,
    Just a simple voltage divider.

While i was waiting i have been building my variable Power supply,

Has 4 fixed voltages and 2 variable voltages.

Also has two different variable voltages controlled by a switch.
    0.5-30V 20amp
    0.5-30V 3amp

I am just waiting on the double gang pots and my switch to come before drilling the holes in the face plate.
I made the box so big that it would actually use less space so i could sit my test TV on it.

    Fixed +32V 20 amp
    Fixed -32V 3amp

These are on two different rails so are isolated from each-other.

    Fixed +18V 20 amp
    Fixed -18V 3amp

You have already learnt a lot about troubleshooting this scope, nothing wrong with fixing, learning and develop logical thinking at the same time. When you have good foundation in troubleshooting, it will be real good knowledge to have for the future. So keep on learning.

Join the TekScopes yahoo group. Those guys know a lot about the old tek scopes. They helped me with my 453.

Yeah i know i called them they had nothing to say about the model,

i am currently waiting for my HV probe to come, once that arrives i will be able to check that side of things because i believe that is where the problem is lying at the moment.

There is some poor actors in this forum, that had turn in to personal hobby to insult other people.
They will get my boot on their face as reaction of defense its and every time that they act that way.

    @epicfatigue
Do not worry about your thread is still here and it will be.
Regarding the scope, similar to it they are listed on Ebay for 50 to 80$,
my last suggestion about it to you, would be to do a telephone call to the nearest TEK service department in your area( state) , and speak directly with their repair man (engineer).
If you mention the problem he will have for you an quick tip that it will determine if this scope is possible to be saved.

    Take care and regards.

hey Tom thanks for your reply,
Yes i have tryed the default settings and not luck.

As per the video when i press the beam finder i get nothing.

But if i pull out the intensity knob (reduced scan) i get a beam.

Please ignore Kiriakos. I doubt the majority of tinkerers/hobbyists require high accuracy -- and besides, replacing an op-amp and transistor in the power supply is unlikely to affect the calibration one bit, no more than line voltage variations.

    --

OP: Have you tried setting it to the default settings above?
PSU voltages still good (maybe replacement op-amp was insufficient?)
Is there a beam find, does this work?

that was devastating to hear, sadly no one out here repairs them, and i do not have the money to buy another i will have to put in the hard yards.

I have noticed it almost seems like the beem is being deflected.

This device needs some one been toying with scopes repairs for 15 years,
find one and pay him to do it.

Alternative advice: sale it again as damaged, and get a cheap 300$ Rigol, so to learn to use fresh made tools capable to make measurements on modern electronics.

Those instruments is all about correct measurements and accuracy, and this aged scope will need even calibration, which translates to more money and time spent and it does not worth it.

Yes I am aware that I am giving you bad news, but you may ignore them so to feel better.

okay so i finally found the correct diagram,

    Layout is Page 275

And Power Supply & distraction page 292

I have highlighted all the components and i am going to remove them 1 by 1 and test them there is only a total of 17 components

    3 transistors
    5 capacitors
    7 resistors
    1 VR resistor
    1 op amp

Was thinking about testing them in that order.

The Tek Yahoo group is a good place to start. I am a member there, but haven't visited it for a year or 2 now.

If I have time I'll post again later, after having a look at the schematics.

Seeking Advice: Repairing Dell U3425WE Monitor with Faulty USB-C/Thunderbolt Ports
    by Borse2008
    Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice or opinions on what to do with a monitor issue I’ve run into. Apologies in advance is this crossovers a few forum categories.

I have a Dell U3425WE, which I've recently replaced with another model. That said, the original unit is still fully functional in terms of the display — it works perfectly over HDMI and DisplayPort. However, the USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 ports have stopped functioning correctly. The Issue:
    • The 90W Thunderbolt 4 port (circled in the photo) no longer charges or powers any device, including laptops or MacBooks.

    Mosfet Advice
    by Green Probe
Hi, Im looking to replace some EMP21N03 mosfets on an Alienware motherboard, but I'm having trouble finding a legit supplier. The ones that are available from China have pictures with the engraved logo looking very scratchy and sketchy. Nobody in the US sells them. I'm trying to find a compatible mosfet, but I'm not well versed enough to be confident im making the right choice. Does anyone have a suggestion or advice that could help me find the right mosfet? Thanks!

Gigabyte Eagle 3060 Ti - Boardview / Advice request please
    by user234
    Hi all,

Recently installed a new motherboard but during the process I seemed to have damaged my Gigabyte Eagle 3060 Ti card.

My motherboard ROG STRIX B550-A is detecting an issue with the VGA (light ON)

I have attached 2 photo's of my GPU board, one above and the other is what I believe to be the 5V - as you can see, this has visual damage so looks suspicious to me.

If I replace this part what are the odds this will resolve the issue? - any additional information on where to source the parts would be much apricated too!

Advice on rewiring this stepup transformer?
    by artvandalai
I bought this Chinese made step up transformer to run some 220v appliances. Some of the wires were brittle and broke off. I attempted to improve some of the wiring with spade terminals and heatshrink tubing as the wires were just soldered straight to the connectors. Any advice on how to rewire the broken wires on this step up transformer? I'm unsure how to go about rewiring this to a better safe working condition.

I'm working on an a1707 macbook pro for a friend of mine that said it had stopped working and will not turn back on. After opening up the laptop I discovered a short on C7382 which took the PPBUS_HS_CPU to gorund.
After fixing the cap issue, I had 12.6 volts on the line. Not sure what or when something happened, but I am now getting 3.6 to 3.8 volts fluctuating. I was taking some volt readings and I'm not sure if I shorted something or if something else has happened.
At this point, I'm not sure where to start looking for something to fix. Maybe the cpu fried anyway when the PPBUS_HS_CPU...
