I recently bought an old 1960's Tektronixs oscilloscope at a yard sale. I had to replace an obviously burnt and cracked vacuum tube, but I am still unable to display a trace while on "normal" mode. The trace will only show on the right third of the screen. I am wondering if there is still a dead component somewhere or if it's just operator error.

I presume you've tried adjusting the horizontal position control. Also, it's best to test using "Auto" triggering instead of "Normal", if your scope has that. Normal triggering requires that a signal be present on the vertical input to trigger a trace. Auto mode will trigger a trace even in the absence of a signal.
Tube circuits are just a couple years ahead of my time, so I can't give much advice on trouble-shooting. Another great place to look for that expertise is the TekScopes Yahoo Group. You have to sign up and all that, but the people that really know these vintage scopes hang out there.Comment

Sorry, I guess a little clarification is needed. Triggering mode is set to auto, triggering slope is set to internal +. Horizontal display is set for "normal". Even with the horizontal position set all the way left, the trace only appears on the right third of the crt. Signal input or not, I still can't center the trace.

Understood, auto/normal usually refers to the trigger mode, but Tektronix does tend to put "normal" on a number of different switch positions. Anyway it sounds like some abnormal DC offset in the horizontal amp. Good chance it's an electrolytic cap, given the age of the unit.
If you intend to troubleshoot, first step is to obtain the service manual. It should have a schematic with nominal voltage measurements.Comment

After a good visual inspection, the place to start troubleshooting something is usually to verify the power supply outputs. The service manual should indicate the allowable tolerances.
But I can't recommend poking around a live CRO chassis for a beginner. Study the schematic and locate the test points with the power off. This may be an interesting learning experience in and of itself. Be aware that capacitors can retain enough charge to be dangerous even with the power off. Use alligator clip leads to set up measurements with a multimeter, then turn the power on.Comment

When I assembled dreamcast I mistakenly fastened long bolt and It resulted in
cutting tiny trace.
This tiny trace(Total width of white coating is 5.5mm) is between R337,R343 and IC101 and it is covered with white coating in the below screenshot.
Firstly I tried to bridging tiny broken trace with my own eyes...But it is totally impossible..So a week ago, I ordered G1200 Digital Microscope and I magnified this tiny broken trace with it.
But It seems that It is really very tiny trace So I plan to order 0.1mm coper wire from aliexpress in order to bridging... -
Hi everyone!
I managed to get my hands on a rough condition B&K 707 for "the best price" because it was not working. It's my first tube tester and I'm really wanting to get it up and running. I downloaded that manual that has the schematics and tested every resistor and capacitor and replaced the ones that failed. I replaced the missing 83 rectifier tube with a used but tested-good one. I also have a number 80 rectifier tube that I have used in tests before I found the 83 tube.

Hello.
I have jut got my first analogue oscilloscope. An Isotech 620 20MHz.
I want to learn how not to damage it, and I found instructions on the internet obscure.
They talk about ground, earth, floating ground, this, that....
But they don't actually say anything anything useful so far.
I want to know:
Don't connect exactly this to exactly there or it blows up.
For example, I am tracing a signal from a function generator in an audio amp, or testing for voltages in different parts of a circuit.
I want to know what not to connect... -

I have recently acquired a Dynamco D7100 analogue oscilloscope without a user manual. As this is the first time I have owned or used an oscilloscope I would like to try and find an instruction book. The manufacturers no longer hold any information and a Google search only found one site but when I downloaded a 'service manual' all I got was gobbledegook. Any help would be gratefully appreciated or even pointers to a generic manual where I could learn more.
