maybe im doing something wrong....but on some of my holes i am having problems with the solder not flowing into the holes around the pin of the new cap. just wants to pool up on the board. Its really starting to frustrate me any suggestions. Using a butane soldering iron whith chisel tip.

Re: issue while soldering plz help.
You may have poor quality solder wire that doesn't have flux inside at all or maybe it's doesn't have flux throughout it's length (some no-name Chinese solder wire has very little flux inside and in irregular density).
You need some flux to cover the surfaces you want to solder so that there's no microscopic layer of oxide preventing solder from chemically binding with the metal.
Another possible reason for not getting a nice solder is too hot solder chisel/gun - if this is the case the flux may evaporate too fast and leave you with just the solder that goes nicely in a ball and sticks above the oxide layer.
And last... you probably know this but if you're using a soldering gun, don't hold the solder on the tip of the tool - warm the metal ring on the board and the wire of the capacitor with the solder tip and touch the two with the solder wire from the opposite side.
Here's some good tutorial about soldering. The second part shows the best examples:
part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5Sb2...layer_embedded (at around 9 minutes in he explains about flux and various types of solder)
part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYz5n...layer_embedded (see esp. at about 2-3 minutes in)
part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9FC9...layer_embedded (a bit of specialty soldering - smd and chips with lots of pins)Last edited by mariushm; 09-10-2011, 02:28 PM.
