    Digital or Analog Insulation Meter/Tester

I was wondering if you can test for bad filter capacitor breakdown with a digital insulation meter like you can with an analog insulation meter. Does it have to be analog or will the digital work? If both work which is more accurate?

Hi, the bad filter capacitor you mean it is breakdown in your application. Is the working condition beyond the filter capacitor specification?
For example, frequency range, temperature range, max. ripple current and capacitor installation.
If everything is alright, you can compare the new capacitor ESR with a good quality capacitor reading with a reasonable frequency setting.

Wishing this can be useful for you.

Some insulation meters have multiple voltage ranges (100, 250, 500 and 1000V on mine), while others only have one range (I think it is 500V).
I'd go for the digital insulation tester.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.
