    Dying Rubycon MHZ?

    Rubycon MHZ series
    10v 2200uf

This is an Intel D865GLC board with the usual failure of all the Nichicon HN(M) series caps.

There is one Rubycon which looks a bit out of place. Is this a possible failure, or is it a feature produced during manufacture? The top isn't exactly bulging - could something pushing down really hard on it make that kind of feature? There has never been anything pushing down on the cap in the case.

I don't have an ESR meter, but I do have an old (but decent?) Tektronix THM565.

It looks like someone dropped a heat sink or something on it when they were working on the system.

      that's no normal dent.
if you look closely, the groove is always on the same 'arm' of the K vent.
      maybe a production fault?

It looks like 3 pictures of the same cap from here.
Orientation of the K stamp and the sleeve is exactly the same.

Could be whoever was doing assembly was using some machine wrong and popped out a batch of dented caps.

Orientation of the coil next to the cap as well.
            I think it's one cap 3 times.

I have an FC on an old Intel P2 board that dented far worse than that from a heatsink-cap collision (fender bender?) incident before I got it.

Never had a problem with it and it ran for years before it was,, um,, parked?

That cap has just sustained some damage. If it came out of the factory like that, it doesn't say much for the board maker's quality control, as that would be an easy detection. Most likely, it was sustained in shipping or by poor handling.
