    Westinghouse LD-4655VX

My neighbor has apparently seen me soldering PSU boards and graphics cards outside... so he decided to give me this TV. They replaced it under a 4-year warranty, but didn't want the old one back.
A technician of some sort was sent out, who claimed (to my neighbor) that "they don't make this board anymore, we'll just replace the set with a new one" and now it's mine.
According to my neighbor, it simply shut off one time in the middle of watching a movie.
    It's a 46" 1080P LEDTV. Was probably around $550-600 new.

I took it apart, there is only one main board that's visible. It gets powered by a 19V 4.74A 90W FSP power supply, basically like a laptop adapter.
I plugged it in, backlighting came on for a second, then it went off, ever since it won't do anything at all and the PSU will just go buzz.... buzz.... buzz.... at regular intervals.

I tried my Lenovo laptop power adapter, which is 20V 3.25A (65W), which I assumed would work as it was close enough, however the little light on it (the Lenovo adapter), just lights up for a sec, goes black, then blinks again...

Would it be a short in the TV itself? Nothing looks obviously wrong with it, no bloated caps. The main CPU on the TV was a Zoran, I was being an idiot and forgot to snap a pic, even though I don't see how that would help...

Is it reasonable to assume the FSP PSU is simply bad, and that my Lenovo PSU is just not powerful enough to make the TV work? Or is the TV shorted?

I would love to get this up and running again, please advise some troubleshooting steps or spout some ideas. Thanks a bunch!

Alright, if I only have the left LED plugged in it works (though half the image is a bit dark)... if I plug only the right one in, or both, it won't turn on. Is it safe to assume the right LEDs are shorted?

So if I cut back the cable a little bit where it goes to the mainboard it will be perfect?

It's really not so bad when you're actually watching a movie (it's bad when you're just on your computer desktop or something)...

I'll try some suggestions from the other thread when I'm home to get the right side working as well.

It is the FCC end that goes to the led board. It wraps around a piece of steel before it goes into the led board and has a tendency to short out there.
I too used a laptop adaptor without short circuit protection and smoked the FCC going to the led board. Hopefully you did not do this.
You have to look closely to see if the ffc is burnt (damaged).

Thank you for the info! I think my laptop charger had sufficient protection
By FCC (or FFC?) You mean the flat ribbon cable thing right?

I just fixed one with the exact same problem. It was a bad ribbon cable to the right led bank. I cut and stripped the existing cable but I'm sure you can order them also.

Can you confirm the repair needs to be done where the cable goes into the panel?

Alright, where the ribbon cable wrapped around the metal frame, the plastic insulation of the cable had seperated, causing a short... some tape fixed that!

In the process, I broke off some of the black plastic that went around the actual LCD. I forgot to put it back on. Well, the issue was fixed, I could see the LEDs on that side lighting up where the black plastic bit was broken, except there was some less bright area (but a smaller area, exactly the length of the broken piece)...so I took the whole damn thing apart again... put the black thing back in, put it all together, now it's back to the original issue. Perhaps I bumped that cable looks again?

Well, I can't figure out what the issue is now. The LEDs are obviously on (see the picture where the black plastic bit is broken off so you can see they are lit)... but a portion of the image is still darkened.
                        Please help me! Thank you...

Edit: could it be that they aren't actually lighting up down there, and I'm just seeing the reflection from the ones that are lit? Because it looks the same as if the right side is unplugged from the mainboard entirely.

It looks like some of the led bank is working but most of it isn't. If the ribbon cable is not perfectly in the plug this may happen. There are a lot more screws but you can get down to the screen and lift to see the led strip.

Holy shit these LEDs are bright... i was staring right at them when they lit, and now I'm like blind lol. It's just a matter of messing with the damn connector some more... but I'm making progress!!!

Screw this, gonna just buy a new FFC cable for it!!

How long does it need to be, obviously I can't use their path which goes through the panel, but I can just route it around the panel entirely to the board.
Am I correct that it's 12-pin, 0.5MM pitch? I need like 3ft though, (~91CM?) where can I find that... I can only find like 15MM ones if I search for them.

                                Thanks

Ok, so I know I know, it's a Westinghouse....lol It's got the backlights but no video. Likely the panel, but I'd like to take some measurements on the buffer board with help from you experts to confirm. See the attached pictures. In pic #1, there's a nice pin reference to use to take some measurements. The large IC in pic #7 gets up to 60degC when the TV is on.

So, backlights, no video, go! 🙂...

Westinghouse Support stated it would require service but that wasn't a cost effective option. I used dental floss to remove the motherboard processor heatsink to identify what make it was (Mstar). Unfortunately that knowledge didn't help with a solution. After the heatsink removal it only displayed a completely white screen. I then decided to replace the motherboard with a universal 3-in-1 board but the white screen problem continued. This...

                                          Hello all!

Westinghouse TV WD48FAB100 Not Powering On – Burn Mark Found on Power Supply .

I have a Westinghouse LED TV, model WD48FAB100 that is not powering on. Upon removing the back cover, I noticed a burn mark where the AC cord connects to the power supply/main board. In this model, there is only one board combining the two functions. Previous owner said the TV experienced a lightening strike, but who knows. I checked the main fuse, tested OK. Here are a collection of readings from the power supply ports. Looking for some guidance on what to test/check next....

New Headset with TRRS 3.5mm making a subtle buzz

Hi! So, I recently had my Plantronics headset die (one 3 pole connector for the mic, another one for the headphones), because of the bad quality potentiometer, so I bought myself a new headset: a JBL Tune 500 (one 4 pole connector for both the mic and headphones). All great and dandy, until I notice a subtle buzz sound (~60Hz, very, very low dB) coming out of them when I connected them to my PC, but the sound wasn't present on my phone. Now, the first thing I tried was replacing my front 3.5mm jacks. After replacing them, the sound was still there.

Did some digging, and found out...

Plantronics headset had a ground loop isolator (hence the quieter sound coming out of them)

Hi All... Me again. Begging for help. The guy who now believes it's possible to fix a TV (one of the millions) one can find on the streets of NYC. I hate hate hate waste...

Thanks to y'all's help I fixed and am happily watching a 70inch Sharp Aquos. Perfect. Learned a lot, replaced LEDs. Pulled screen/panel. Proud.

This is a newer set. It's a Westinghouse Roku WR58UX4019. It was RIGHT outside my place literally, and I couldn't resist. 58in. 500$ new, but I'm not a rich man. So, I want to try.

There is sound. It turns off and on. Screen is black. I can...
