My neighbor has apparently seen me soldering PSU boards and graphics cards outside... so he decided to give me this TV. They replaced it under a 4-year warranty, but didn't want the old one back.
A technician of some sort was sent out, who claimed (to my neighbor) that "they don't make this board anymore, we'll just replace the set with a new one" and now it's mine.
According to my neighbor, it simply shut off one time in the middle of watching a movie.
It's a 46" 1080P LEDTV. Was probably around $550-600 new.
I took it apart, there is only one main board that's visible. It gets powered by a 19V 4.74A 90W FSP power supply, basically like a laptop adapter.
I plugged it in, backlighting came on for a second, then it went off, ever since it won't do anything at all and the PSU will just go buzz.... buzz.... buzz.... at regular intervals.
I tried my Lenovo laptop power adapter, which is 20V 3.25A (65W), which I assumed would work as it was close enough, however the little light on it (the Lenovo adapter), just lights up for a sec, goes black, then blinks again...
Would it be a short in the TV itself? Nothing looks obviously wrong with it, no bloated caps. The main CPU on the TV was a Zoran, I was being an idiot and forgot to snap a pic, even though I don't see how that would help...
Is it reasonable to assume the FSP PSU is simply bad, and that my Lenovo PSU is just not powerful enough to make the TV work? Or is the TV shorted?
I would love to get this up and running again, please advise some troubleshooting steps or spout some ideas. Thanks a bunch!
